You're totally right, getting films made anywhere is tough. The specific reasons for the struggles with the American industry are complicated and highly debated, but I think a large part of it has to do with the US economy. American films, both the big budget kind and the small indies, depend on private financing. Right now, the US economy is in a recession and so there's simply less financing available. There are also issues of technology, new media, outdated business models, etc. And the fact there is very little governmental support for the arts here in the US. Like I said, it's complicated. Hmmm, maybe it would be worth writing a blog entry about this.
Hi Jeszlene, thanks for the question. The film scene in NYC is great and very tough at the same time. There's such amazing talent here - writers, directors, actors, producers - and that really inspires and pushes everyone to do their best work. On the flip side though, everyone's competing for the same opportunities. The US indie film industry is struggling a bit at the moment, so it's even more of a challenge to get your projects made. What's the scene like in Singapore?
Cool, hope we can meet up. Let me know your schedule when u find out.
I didn't do that much on my last trip to SG cuz it was raining a lot... just went to the Botanic Garden and just shopped on Orchard Rd and ate and walked around Dempsey Hill a bit. I didn't get to go to Sentosa Island or the zoo/night safari last time... is it nice? I don't need to too anything too touristy unless you think it's worth seeing or checking out... I'd be happy with eating good food, doing some shopping, hanging out... :)
