So, I was wandering the site the other day and came upon a post from someone linking to a picture of Daniel Wu. After I stopped blushing, I clicked through the rest of the Flickr album to find a plethora of Asian stars in the near-nude. Now, many people have, or could just look at them, say "Ooh, sexy" and move along. I, however, was interested in why a large group of people who are usually fairly shy or conservative would expose themselves to such vulnerability. After much searching and research I found my answer: it was for a good cause! Leslie Kee, a noted and famous photographer decided to do a project that would not only stir interest in the public, but serve them as well. I think this is wonderful. Finding out that he photographed 300 Asian stars was amazing, but the reason was even more fantastic. Leslie Kee decided to make a humanitarian effort to help the still-struggling survivors of the 2004 Tsunami. I also find it wonderful that each and every celebrity that he approached accepted and participated. They weren't just Hong Kong stars, either. Japan, Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong and more all gathered together in one book. Sure, some of the stars were practically nude, but that was the point, to see them in their most vulnerable state, and to garner attention in order to support the cause. I love when I find such simple things and they pull me in to something larger and wonderful. If only I could afford the book! I didn't find it available anywhere offically and there is a copy on eBay for $495.00 (USD). That's way too rich for my blood, not to mention none of that will likely go to the Tsunami victims, as intended. So, I peak at the few official releases and the not-so-legal ones fans and viewers have captured and hope that the money raised helped as many people as possible. So, Daniel, if you ever read this (since you ARE a member of this site, and you might) THANKS! Taking small parts in bigger humanitarian efforts is always something to be admired, especially in celebrities these days.
