Finally after much procrastination and delay, I've gotten rid of my teeth and now getting ready for my braces.

I initially wanted to do a jaw reconstruction surgery to correct my underbite. It's pretty pricey and Dad wasn't too happy that I'd have to go through full anesthetics so had that idea off my mind. I went to a local orthodontist today and got a second opinion.

She was a nice lady. Gave me various options and told me to consider them carefully. I told her that the previous doctors were pretty determined that not only my underbite can't be fixed with braces, it'll worsen the condition as my current bottom teeth are slightly slanted backwards. Straightening them with braces will only widen the gap between the top and the bottom.

Dr.Wong, my orthodontist, took my x-rays and explained the scenario to me. She too agreed that braces can't do much to my underbite as my jaw is slightly long but convinced me that the gap will not be worsened with braces. Furthermore, my current goal is to have all my teeth straightened first. I have pretty much accepted the fact that I can't correct my underbite. I shall be the Asian Keira Knightley. ROFL!

She studied my x-rays, explained the process that I'd need to go through and the time span. I'd need to remove 2 lower teeth and insert seperators during the next appointment. I couldn't wait any longer. I told her I wanted it done today. So there! I have both my teeth extracted, seperators attached and on the 19th, I shall be glueing the braces on. What color should I opt for?

It was a horrifying experience really, extracting the teeth. Not the pain, surprisingly. The entire process was PAINLESS. He sprayed some liquid on my gum to numb it and about 10 minutes later, injected the anesthetics. He was really, really gentle. I felt nothing at all. . Then, I saw him lifting the spanar like equipment and started putting force, A LOT OF IT, to get the whole teeth out. Still no pain but the sound of it getting looser and finally cracking out of my gum is awful. And then he went on to the next tooth. Did the same, still no pain. Hmm.

Drove home, started drooling cause I had 2 HUGEEEE gauzes in my mouth. My lips were numb so I couldn't feel them dripping on my bed where I was sprawled watching TV. Looked down a minute later and found blood and saliva all over. .

About 2 hours later, I thought it should've dried up. I wasn't salivating so much anymore so I removed the gauze and wanted to take my bath. WRONG MOVE. Felt warm blood on my tongue instantly then down my throat. GROSS. I'm so not vampire quality . Head went spinning within a snap and all I could do was wrap myself in my towel and rushed into my parents room. Laid on their bed, WET. Mom had to dry me up and cover me with a comforter. . Parents were kinda shocked until they knew I got a taste of my own blood and started laughing. FYI, I'm a qualified first-aider. EPIC FAIL!!!

The pain's still there now. Not throbbing but...definitely annoying. Can't wait to put have the braces on. This year's birthday will be spent eating congee.

    Now, now...where's the tooth fairy?!

Look at those roots! Eek! Did they sew up the vacant spot? Good luck with the braces. You (actually, the dentist) can change the color of the rubber band every month. That is the fun part. How many years will you have to keep the braces on?

Wow, those look like the size of my wisdom teeth when they got pulled out.  I remember the drool as well  =p
I had braces twice, the first time in Grade 7 for 2.5 years, then had retainers for a year, then in first year uni, my bottom teeth got crooked again and I got braces for another year just for the bottom and got retainers for the top.  I didn't get to pick colours back then, it was metal all the way =p  I think I lost 10lbs when I got them b/c I couldn't eat anything for the first 4-5 weeks and then by the time you get used to them it's time to go to the ortho to get them tightened again.  But don't worry girl, it's well worth it in the end b/c you'll have nice and straight teeth.
I also have underbite problem, they put these little elastics on the top and bottom of my braces to try to correct them.

The worst part is over. Now you'll just have to get used to the braces. Which is pretty easy. Keep us posted on your progress!

I can empathize, I had 7 teeth extracted before I had my braces for 3.5 years.  Good luck with it all!
