Dub Session at Clockenflap

Just a quick personal plug to say that I am once again coming out of my pseudo retirement to DJ at Clockenflap this weekend.. I'm stoked to have a lazy Sunday afternoon session where I can go back to my musical roots and play some seriously mellow deep and drowsy Dub - the perfect backdrop to a sunny afternoon.

Expect to hear a collection of dub - past, present and future - and look out for tracks made especially for the day by myself and musician/composer Pete Millward (Drum Music / Celestial) under our old moniker The Bass Cadets.

Well, as we've been saying now for many years - see you down the front...

MOVEMBER!

In case you're unaware, Movember is an annual, global fund raising event dedicated to "changing the face of men's health"... The basic premise is ridiculous in its simplicity - normally clean shaven men grow a moustache throughout the month of November, and you - the supportive public - sponsor us to help raise funds and awareness for men's health.

This year I've joined the MellowParks China Snowboarding Team and we'll all be growing Mo’s to raise money for the New Zealand Cancer Society (as there is no Charity set up in China for this yet) and raising awareness of prostate cancer. IdN 15 Anniversary Bonanza

I gotta say that I was pretty stunned and totally stoked to see that not only some of my personal work made it into the IdN 15 Anniversary book, but also my studio ChinaStylus, the ST/ART project and work by alter-ego *COM... Crikey..

Big thanks to Chris and all at IdN for years of support. I honestly don't think I'd be here without you..

Just a belated word of respect for The Swayze... Maybe not the world's greatest actor, but a total dude and a fine dancer. Anyways, Point Break is still one of my favourite films - and possibly one the greatest surfing movies ever - and it's also where I borrowed the name Bodhi from all those years ago...

Designer, art director, urban artist, wakeskater, father... Founder of design studio ChinaStylus, the ST/ART urban art collective and Galleri Magazine. Sometimes known as Dj Bodhi (retired) and *COM.

Most of my days are taken up running ChinaStylus, the design studio that I set up in 1999. We've grown in strength and reputation over the years and I was recently awarded "40 Under 40" by Perspective Magazine - given to the 40 "most influential and outstanding designers in Greater China".. More recently, I set up Galleri Magazine with partner Timon Wehrli at Red Dog Studio. Now working on the third issue, Galleri is completely self-funded and aims to be a genuine quality showcase of all things creative in Hong Kong and beyond. More at: http://www.galleri.hk

Back in 2005 while creating urban / street artworks under the name *COM, I was founding member of the ST/ART Urban Art Collective. This positively received project has since gone on to have a load of demos, commissions, cross-overs and collaborations with other artists and brands as well as three major group exhibitions. Music is my sanity and as the (now retired) enthusiastic and technically suspect DJ Bodhi, I championed the breakbeat sound through club nights BeatSuite, Erratica (with Dan F & Simon Pang) and UncutDope (with AKW). On occasion, I've also ventured into the studio, producing music under the moniker Black Dragon (with Pete Millward) and appearing briefly on the third Celestial album. Also rare, but just as enjoyable, are the studio excursions and occasional live performances with dub collective Bass Cadets. And the least said about the 'boy band' Sikx*Pak, the better... Oh dear...

I was an obsessive (but rubbish) skateboarder for years until I broke my collar bone into three pieces attempting a trick that I had no possible hope of landing (even if I'd been sober). So now I stick to wakeskating. Like a brilliant combo of wakeboarding, skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding, it's harder to learn, but doesn't hurt as much when you fall.

Right now (and for many years to come), I choose to spend as much time as possible with my adorable young son Tristan FC (and his adorable mother). Despite being only a few months old, he has the ability to put the whole world into perspective and he is truly a joy in every sense.

And that, quite simply, is what makes everything else I do worthwhile.
