I've recently posted a video on my Alive Not Dead profile, and it's of my performance at the August 2007 First Thursdays "No Rules" slam at the Hawaiian Hut. I was the performer to close the show, and the performer before me got keyed off by the audience (shaking of keys by the audience to tell the performer to get off the stage). From that, I knew I had to rip it, but had no idea what I was going to end up doing. I was tired from performing earlier that night in a featured theatre piece "Hip-Hopalypse" where I performed the beatbox without a mic. It was tough since I tried to project as loud as I could, but the audience could not hear me. This solo performance allowed me to be heard with the mic, and it was an improvisational performance that rocked the crowd. I placed second in this night behind the amazing poet
Bridget Gray (who I end up collaborating with a year later in August 2008).

It's a thrill to see people thrilled about what Makana and I've done so far. Makana is a genius, and by far a true visionary. I've worked with various artists in the past who would somehow make me feel that I'm holding back, but with Makana that's totally opposite. He actually wants a lot out from me to tap into a higher potential that we both know that I am capable of. It's a blast working with him thus far.

my name is Jason Tom. I'm brand spanking new here, and am trying this out. I've been busy working on the content for my official website www.jasontom.com, so please stop by when you can. There will eventually be photos and videos added to my official website and more. For a lot of you who don't know, I'm a Chinese American human beatbox who hails from Honolulu, Hawai`i. A human beatbox (term coined by Doug E. Fresh) is pretty much a human drum machine. Imagine someone creating cymbals, hi-hats, bass kick, snares, but more using just the human mouth, lips, tongue, vocal cords, and what not.
Anyway like I've said I'm new here, don't forget to say hi!!!
