I bought the DVD two weekends ago and finally had a chance to watch it yesterday afternoon. This film has become one of my top ten. I can't wait to watch it again. The story focuses on a social misfit called Oskar, who gets taunted and bullied at school on a daily basis. Home life isn't much better for Oskar as he gets tossed between his divorced parents from week to week. One night, a mysterious man and little girl move in next door. Oskar and the girl, Eli, seem to have something in common - both are loners. As the story begins to unravel, Oskar discovers the truth about Eli and who she really is. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, you really have to see it for yourself!

But be forewarned there are truly horrific moments in the film, although those scenes are never overdone or too in your face. The shots are done extremely beautifully, some remind me of exquisite photographs. Each shot was carefully thought out and director Tomas Alfredson is one for paying attention to the minute details. Kudos to the two main child actors,
Kåre Hedebrant (Oskar) and Lena Leandersson (Eli) for bringing reality and life to the characters. It's a pity that there are talks of Hollywood doing a remake!
It raised these questions for me: Can vampires and humans live in peace together? Can a vampire love? How much will you be willing to sacrifice for love?

The film was adapted from a book of the same title by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I'm interested in reading this.
I highly recommend this beautifully done film.
