As definied by wiki, arachnophobiais an irrational fear of spiders or other arachnids. People with arachnophobia tend to feel uneasy in any area they believe could harbor spiders or that has visible signs of their presence, such as webs.
I've tried hard to deal with this phobia but from time to time I get a nervous attack when I see one. Mr. C often reminds me that I'm a lot bigger than them, so there's nothing to be afraid of (that's often easy for those who aren't afraid of spiders to say). So for a while, I was trying my best to be brave but I admit that the sight of them gives me goosebumps and chills. What exactly gives me the chills are their long legs and the fear of them touching me. I know even if they did touch me, most likely nothing will happen but the thought of their ugly legs on me just makes me shiver (sorry all you spider lovers out there). I'm also deathly afraid of bees but that's another story.
Last night when I was showering I realized something was hanging inside the top corner of the bathtub. Since I'm not in my contacts/glasses when I shower, I couldn't really see clearly but when I stepped closer to take a look, it was a spider. I basically turned off the water, quickly wrapped a towel around myself and asked Mr. C to get rid of it for me. It's not the first time I've seen a spider in my tub but this one was quite huge. Plus, it was hanging there. So much for trying to overcome my phobia eh?
How many of you out there are arachnophobic? And those that aren't afraid of spiders, any tips for us aranophobics?
Initially I was going to include a spider picture from the web, but even looking at spider images gave me goosebumps so I decided not to put one up.
On a happier note, I'd leave you with this song that I'm totally digging. It's 小小蟲 (Little Bug) by 方大同 (Khalil Fong). The lyrics are so cute, it talks about a guy meeting a girl because of a bug. (Lyrics are by 農夫/FAMA). Video:
hmmm I have no phobia but more than a few friends are so. some cant see even butterfulies. as i spent every summer holidays at great-grandparents in countryside, used to familiar with insects including spiders. rather my great grandmom was brontophobia!!
i do not have fear of spiders .. but im terribly frightened of lizards and snakes. they creep me out completely - eeeekkkk. now, my goose pimples are standing up when im writing here .. the mere thought of lizards .. eeeekkk! if one of them ever drop on me (touch wood touch) i know i will jump around the house screaming on top of my lungs and will scrub the skin off my body where it landed! EEEEEEEeEEEEEEeeeEEEEK!
i have been listening to alot of khalil songs lately .. his voice is good!!
I HEART KHALIL FONG =D
Mr. B has a phobia of spiders too so I have an idea of how you feel. They make him freeze up as well and I'm usually the one who has to get rid of them in our house. I must say it would probably bother me to find one in my shower too. Did you ever read or watch Charlotte's Web? Charlotte was a nice spider :)
That's a cute song and vid! I've been digging Khalil lately too. He did a great job with those remakes on Timeless.
I sometimes think the easiest way to overcome a phobia is to actually face it, sounds hard and believe me it is, I have social phobia and it's not easy to face many people but I have no choice, perhaps you could attempt the same, don't go for a big spider, try a little money spider or indeed the furry breeds like the tarantula rather than the house spider which isn't the prettiest of beasts, go to a specialist place and they'll introduce you slowly.
I am scared of spiders and bees! hahaa... and I go screaming for mom or whoever to help me kill a spider... I've gotten a little better now but if someone else can kill it, I'll let them do the job. I don't like the feeling of "squishing" the spider. hahaa...
I've had spiders in the shower before too. but luckily there were in areas where I can pour water on them... hahaa... I just watch it go down the drain... =D
i know how u feel dear when u saw the hanging spider while in the shower , must be really panic ha...
i'm not so fearful of spiders unless is a real big one...i'm more fearful of lizards n snakes ...just can't stand the sight of it.
u know, just last wk , i was boiling barley water and left it to cool on the kitchen top and guess what, when i was ready to drink, i found a lizard drown in the pot (not sure how the lizard got inside )...i had goosebumps all over and i was so afraid to pour away in the kitchen sink, so,i took it outside and pour into the drain...since then i never use dat pot anymore...hehe
Sounds like Ron Weasley!! LOL
I'm fine with spiders but I have MAJOR OPIDIOPHOBIA. Snakes. GAHHH!!!
We went to the zoo once back in elementary school. There was this reptile section. I was initially attracted to it cause the chameleons were BEAUTIFUL. And then we entered the room PACKED with snakes.
I started sweating and eventually left the room to barf. LMAO! Shame on me,
Hmmm... and to think I've got another batch of "great" spider pics to post... I'll put a warming in the title. Girl-child is the polar opposite. She thinks spiders are nifty. As I type, there's a big wolf spider living in a jar in my living room. *sigh* He better stay in his jar or he's gonna be a spider grease spot.
'm not gonna laught as I got a son with the same problem. First It was cute but now its mostly like hmmmm son you aint gonna find a wify if you don't get a grip of yourself. He goes into a fit even for the tiniest little spider and the garden spider in his eyes are like Amazon rain forest creatures for him.
I don't dig those suckers either nor do I dig ANY creepy creping creatures for that mater.
I'm trying to overcome S fear by catching them in a large cup and throw them outside every time I see one. And believe me my house is full of them, don't know why =(
Why don't you try that method and see if it works? Some one ones told me ' they are more scared of you, than you are of them' So try to rem YOU are the BIG guy and they are just TINY little suckers. Repeat that in your head every time you see them, it may work =)
Btw Love Khalil fong, he has a unique music stile for being Asian you know. He reminds me of D'angelo and few good black singers from back in the 80's.

Sorry babe, there is nothing worse than being caught in your most vulnerable place of the house, the shower. It's so strange that I don't fear for spider, not even a little bit, not even the black widow. Elmo loves to eat spider and bugs but I afraid he might got bite so I train him not to anymore. I heard that cedar wood actually will keep spider away too and it seem to work for me although I bought them to keep my sweater and coat from being ruin by moth. I do have phobia and I know exactly how you feel. Mine is pretty bad because I can't breath, my heart stop twice already, I can't even look at magazines or TV if I know there will be snake. I can't touch stuffs with snake pictures even if it's shoes. That goes for most reptile even earth worm (which for some reasons I found a couple in my place lately and I'm on the 2nd floor above the garage, weird...not sure how to get rid of that but it's gross found them in your shoes...). Writing down the word snake will give me nightmare tonight. I don't think there's a way to overcome because I tried everything, eating their meat, drinking the blood with liquor, even own a python and being hypnotize :-(
I have no arachnophobia. I'm always smashing the ones the kiddies bring to my attention. If it's hard to reach, I'll use one of our toy golf clubs. The putter, actually. Call me exterminator-slash-peachey. lol. For a time, my little one was getting spider bites while she'd sleep in her bed at night. That stopped w/o any of my participation. Good!
It's human's nature of being fear by certain thing..
Take it easy...we cnt avoid...juz try our best to
Overcome it... wish ya a happy Wednesday......
