Actor, Producer, Director and Writer.
Currently based out of Tokyo, Japan, Ian Shen is an actor, director/filmmaker, voiceover artist, singer/songwriter, freelance graphics/web designer, an international Christian preacher, English educator in Japan, and business owner. Indeed, a man of many hats. Born in 1971 to a former Hong Kong beauty queen, Ian, the eldest of four, grew up in the Midwestern United States. After high school, the bright-eyed young man went west to the land of where dreams are made.
By 1993, Ian completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (biomedical sciences emphasis) at the University of California at Riverside, and then completed his four-year Master of Divinity (with emphasis family pastoral care and counseling) at Fuller Theological Seminary in 1997. From the pursuit of healing the body to healing the soul, Ian has always sought to make a difference in his life and those around him.
One milestone was the release of his debut, self-produced full-length CD album entitled, Where the Road Divides in 1998. The album is a compilation of songs written over his first ten-years as a Christian. His songs of the contemporary Christian genre are "the songs of his soul," as Ian calls them, a means of healing during a very difficult period of his life, trying to find his place in the world.
"The album is about commitment," recalls Ian, "It affirms my decision to follow Jesus Christ in spite of the others' opinions or what is popular. I choose to take the road less traveled." To know Ian, is to know whom he loves.
In addition to being in front of the camera and being on stage, Ian has stepped into the roles of producer and director (as well as writer) for three short films, all currently with distribution through the 168-Hour Film Project.
