You know that you're here for a reason. You know it. And if you leave this place, that knowledge is gonna eat you alive from the inside out... until you decide to come back.
- John Locke in "LOST" - Season 4, Episode13
I'm usually not a big fan of top 10 movie lists, but everybody does them each year, so here are mine.
Top 10 films released in 2009 (in no particular order) 1. Avatar 2. The Good, the Bad, the Weird (dir. Kim Ji-Woon) 3. Mother (dir. Bong Joon-Ho) 4. Changeling (dir. Clint Eastwood) 5. Shinjuku Incident 6. Up 7. Public Enemy No. 1, Part 2 (dir. Jean Francois Richet) 8. Watchmen 9. Terminator: Salvation 10. Inglorious Basterds
Top 10 films I watched on DVD in 2009 (in no particular order) 1. CJ7 (dir. Stephen Chow) 2. Mad Detective (dir. Johnnie To) 3. Sparrow (dir. Johnnie To) 4. JCVD (starring Jean-Claude Van Damme) 5. Taken (starring Liam Neeson) 6. Ip Man (starring Donnie Yen) 7. Bonnie and Clyde (first time I have watched this.) 8. Lost - Season 5 (yes, I actually included a TV series in a FILM list :D ) 9. Six Feet Under - The Complete Series (brilliant HBO TV drama) 10. Nip/Tuck - Season 5
Honorary Award The Cove It's a brilliant documentary about the pointless slaughter of dolphins.
Worst Film of the Year The Twilight Saga: New Moon I'm no hater, I just can't see what's so great about half naked native American teenagers running around and giving lines that come straight from Chinese fortune cookies.
Biggest Disappointment Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen I really love the first part. What a shame the second one turned out so... ...dumb... ...actually. Well, it made loads of money, that's what Michael Bay films do. :D
Please keep in mind that there are a lot of titles I really wanted to watch, but couldn't get round to it. These titles include: Gran Torino Love Exposure The Hurt Locker District 9 Stepfather (the remake) Turtle - The Incredible Journey 2012 Ninja Assassin
And sorry to John Woo. Although Red Cliff II was a nice piece of cinema and a return back to form for the master of action I was a bit disappointed by the narrative. But that's just me, I know.
In November we had the pleasure of welcoming Italian
actors Lorenzo Renzi and Natale Stefani here in Cologne, Germany. They came in
order to discuss their characters Vincent and Edgar with us and in order to
shoot interviews for you guys to enjoy on the FINALE website soon.
It was the
second time in Cologne for both actors. The first time they were here was when
they shot their teasers which you can check out in the teaser section.
When I
picked the guys up at the airport I was so amazed by Lorenzo’s shape. Since the
last time we saw him he added 20kg of muscle mass. All this for his role of
Vincent, the ex-boxer, this is true dedication. One of the first things Lorenzo
asked me after we got into the car was , “Hey Hussain, is there a gym close-by
to my hotel? I need to stay in shape.uHS”
He told me about his daily routine of eating 14 eggs every single day.
Natale
confirmed this to me the next morning after him and Lorenzo had breakfast at
the hotel. He said that the other people in the hotel’s restaurant couldn’t
believe their eyes when they saw Lorenzo gathering about 10 eggs on his plate.
It is so good to know that all this, all the efforts of everybody involved, will
pay off once FINALE is released.
The first
day we had talks about FINALE, the storyline and the characters and the next
day we shot interviews with the guys. They both provided us with great material
to work with and it was a pleasure editing the interviews. They will be
released on this website soon.
The
funniest part of it all was a fake interview that we shot where Lorenzo and
Natale slip into their characters who are being interviewed by FINALE team
member Marco. There really is some funny stuff which you will see in a couple
of weeks. Please give us your feedback.
The same
day we shot the interviews it was Natale’s birthday. So it is needless to say
that we had dinner later that night and we were joined by a few friends. Among
them were FINALE editor Katrin Staub and FINALE DoP Kai Longolius and his
lovely wife Kirsten. We had some great laughs. Lorenzo demonstrated how useful
it was having so huge muscles by putting a sugar sprinkler on his shoulders and
Natale really enjoyed his birthday cake.
Later on
the guys went to an arcade place and Rouchdi and Lorenzo competed in a boxing
match. Not the way you might think, though. Just check the pictures and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
The next morning it was time to say goodbye to Lorenzo and Natale as I drove them back to the airport. I guess the next time we'll see the guys again will be around May when the shooting of FINALE will start. Next up for us is a trip to Seoul in January. So be sure to check back for the new blog entry soon.
Our website guys created a new "Interview" section on the FINALE website over at www.finale-movie.com. Lead actor Filippo Valle's interview starts the section off and is soon to be followed by further cast & crew interviews.
Hey everybody, this is a commercial I have worked on in May this year. I'm the guy with the hat and who falls on his chest as the busdriver hits the brakes.
Hussain Abdullah has been fascinated by movies (especially Asian cinema) since his early childhood. Over and over he worked on TV productions and commercials as extra, stunt performer & coordinator, runner, grip, driver etc. However, what he enjoyed doing a lot more was making short martial-arts videos with his team called GoingVisual. He was a movie and DVD reviewer for many years before he started working as 1st Assistant Director on his first international action movie called FINALE.
