There is an old Shaolin edict that reads:

Run before you fight
Fight before you injure
Injure before you maim
Maim before you kill

The essence of this saying is that when one chooses to protect oneself, he must do so using only the minimum amount of force and severity necessary to achieve that goal. Do not impose your will on others. Respect for others is the first rule in life and in the martial arts.

I read up the nice coverage in Bey Logan's latest blog. Very good stuff. Always been fond of Tai Chi but never found the right moment or opportunity to take it up here in Ireland. I know who I will be calling though if ever I go back to Hong Kong or visit China... ;)
