I recently watched the movie 21 and had to say that I was shocked that it got such terrible reviews.  The story line was quite good, the acting was mediocre, but the cinematography was bloody terrible.  All and all it didn't deserve an oscar but hell it didn't deserve bad reviews.  I've seen way worse movies that were hyped up to be super!

What bothers me the most is that this movie was based on a true story.  Not the fact that it was a true story, but the fact that the main character should have been Asian!  How do we glorify putting a white actor in an original Asian actor's place.  This was a time for one of our many Asian actors to shine and break through, but yet a white actor was put in his stead.  Am I the only person that this bothers?  I think I'm sick of seeing Jackie Chan and Jet Lee as the only famous Asian actors.  No offense to either of them, they have done well.  But, many Asian races are able to act in non kung fu films.

It just surprises me that we have so few Asian males in real roles, has the Hollywood film producers not caught onto diversity?

  • The 4 hour work week

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYpRja0-vrU

This book may hands down be my new favorite life/business book.  It makes so much sense, but yet so few know or do anything about it.  In the US and Hong Kong we are constantly overworked and unhappy.  I constantly ask the question as to why? Why are we always working so hard for things, and yet unhappy?

In a nutshell it is because we concentrate on the superficial items in life (e.g. TV's, Cars, Houses, Models, Perfume, Cloths, etc.).  Yet countries such as India who are considered "Third World Countries" are often times happier per capita then the average American.  We bust our asses so hard and yet we can never answer the question as to why we bust our ass so hard.

First and foremost the 9-5 is an archaic form of work.  Who in god's name really works productively in a 9-5 day.  Yet we have families town apart, the highest divorce rates in the country, and people who are always tired.  The 9-5 model is a bull shit model (to be Frank).  But how do I get away from this model?  I need money! I need structure! I need my car! I need my house!  I need...

No matter what it is that we "need" what we really desire is what the question is.  What does a big house, big car, expensive lifestyle equate to.  For some it is happiness, for others it is still some form of happiness.  Yes you showing off to your neighbor, father, mother, or friend is still a form of happiness.  But yet we are searching for happiness in a backwards form.  We are going from the outside in.  It doesn't work that way.

Tim Ferriss the author of The Four Hour Work Week isolates what it takes to accumulate this goal.  Now I will admit that some people will probably have to work a bit more then 4 hours a week, but lets be clear 40 is worthless.  If we work 40+ hours a week we only have 65 hours (estimated) of free time.  And that isn't including commuting times and at home homework times.  Tim shows the tricks of the trade on getting yourself to be more efficient and effective.

On a side note, but still having to do with working four hours, is the media.  I can't tell you how much nonsense is in the media.  It is for this reason that I don't own a TV.  It should be illegal to show the crap that it is on TV, really most of it is subliminal messaging for people to think a certain way.  No wonder 90% of the country have it backwards!!!  Children shouldn't grow up in a world of this shit! (ok getting excited here).

My point, think of how you can save your time so that you don't have to say "I'm so busy I don't have enough time for myself!"  Unless of course you are trying to get out of something.  Money in life doesn't matter, time does.  I hate seeing people board and unexcited.  Really being happy means that our minds are stimulated enough to keep us entertained.  The news might be entertaining but it is messing up the way we think and live.  Lets get our shit together and become the 10% that knows how to use their brain and be happy (and no I do not think only rich people are happy).

Oh by the way, we are royally screwed because now we are choosing between an oil tycoon or a pharmaceutical tycoon.  In case you didn't know pharmaceuticals are dependent off of cheap oil.  Hillary is just as bad as Mccain.

I was thinking of this today.  I figured that this was a little bit of an extension of my prior blog "Love vs. Attachment."

    Enjoy

    Love is…

Expectation of one person to another
A condition from a daughter to a mother
A paradox between mother and daughter
Teaching my significant other to be a better lover
Infatuation of him, infatuation of her

    Love is…
    Showing empathy to everyone
    Understanding and respecting no one
    Searching and longing for someone

    Love is…
    Compassion
    Wisdom
    Forgiveness

    Love is…
    Impossible and Improbable
