In the US, we now have one of the worst, if not the worst presidents in the history of mankind.  For those of you out there who support Bush, I am entitled to my opinion and free speech.  But then again republicans don't really believe in free speech, come to think of it the democrats would love to have no free speech too!  For those who do support Bush and are on this website, it is very ironic and highly humorous to see you reading this.  We seriously are in trouble here in the US, and it is rippling to everyone in every country.

I write this blog mealy to talk a bit about a documentary I just watched.  I happen to watch quite a few and am a great fan of them.  The documentary was called Ralph Nader and Unreasonable Man.  In the beginning of the documentary a quote by George Bernard Shaw appears "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.  Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."  This statement says a lot about the movie and the title.  I support this movie fully because had I known more about Ralph Nader at the time of the 2000 and 2004 election, I would have voted for Ralph.  Of course I wasn't old enough to vote for Ralph's first run in 2000.

Let me say this about Ralph Nader.  If it wasn't for him we would not have Seat Belts, Airbags, and Warning Labels on Cigarettes, regulated food in the grocery store, and the list goes on.  I don't know about you, but this is a man I want as my leader, as my president.

In the society and world that we have today, we have politicians that are crooks, and all they want is power and money, to feed their egos.  Hell even the Democrats are guilty of that.  We have a two party system that is so skewed and corrupt that no one that we vote for even matters.  I have said this before and I will say it again.  Does it really matter who we vote for? Are the polls rigged anyway?  Let’s look at Taiwan and the fake presidential assassination attempt.  It is ridiculous.  Politicians in ancient Greece were respected individuals, until the downfall of course.  What I’m trying to announce is that the downfall of countries such as the US will occur with the dishonest corporate politicians that we have today.

Now I have to answer the question, what does this have to do with the environment and what I care about most (not that I don't care about economics and other business items)? This matters to the environment because we now have crappy politicians who don't help our current state of crisis that we face.  You might ask, Do we face crisis? Yes, it is inevitable at this point, unless we start greening and solving our global warming, and pollution problems.  What are we doing with our so called "leaders?"  We are sitting on our hands pretending like we are doing something productive.  Oil in the US is almost $4 a gallon; last I checked it is $8 in HK.  We should realize that our cheap oil will never be cheap again, not just because the big oil companies who run our government are greedy.  But also, because our oil supply of the world is running out.  I give us maybe 20 years before oil becomes something that only the super rich (10% of the population) can use.  That leaves us with trillions of materials which we depend on to not be able to use.  Unless of course we start now.

I recently wrote a permaculture blog, on how I attended a permaculture course.  Why it is significant is because "You can solve all of the world's problems, in a garden" (Geoff Lawton).  What I am asking of the public is to stand up and fight for someone that he/she believes in.  Michel Moore once believed "Choosing between Evil and a Lesser of Evil, is still settling for evil."   Everyone fight, because the power that used to be the people, in most countries today, is no longer in the hands of the people, it is in the hands of the corporations instead.

What can you do? Educate yourself! Learn about independent documentaries such as
Ralph Nader: An Unreasonable Man.  Support these small productions.  Like the artists on this site these artists are dedicated to making art and changing the world.  We have a responsibility for our future generations.

Let's Change the world for the better!

    Video: Greening the Desert

Today I  attended a lecture on permaculture with Mr. Green (Rain Bedard).  This spectacular form of gardening/farming/living, is something that is the future of everyone.  If it isn't the future of how we will live, I don't know how we will survive.

What is Permaculture? Well it is basically how you can use the land you have to make it sustainable.  It is very much all about turning a living space into a sustainable place.  How often do we see gardens or farms in today's society? Not very often.  In fact, the children of today, haven't even had the chance to visit a real farm.  Permaculture is essentially getting a person to use their waste, rain water, soil to grow plants and sustain ones own living.

The first objection to living sustainable is that people don't have enough time.  Unfortunately there isn't any time left for us to not be living sustainable.  In as little as 2 hrs per day 6 days a week, one can have their own food, recycle their own waste and have  a peace of beautiful land.  Hell, you might be able to sell your food and make money.  Think about how long it takes for us to go the grocery store, when we could be farming produce in our back yards.  For those who don't have back yards and living in apartment buildings a sustainable living environment can be put in place by having a community garden, or having more people in suburbia live sustainably.

The lecturer at this course has traveled all over the world to urban cities or jungles and created sustainable living.  He has spread this beautiful knowledge to countries and cities like Vietnam, Australia, London England, Mexico, etc.  Not only is permaculture fully doable it is easy to do and fun.

In today's society we have depressed, overweight, and unhappy individuals.  Have we come a long way from our ancestors? Or better, Have we come in a positive direction? Families across the world are falling apart, people are becoming flakier and flakier.  Our whole social structure is falling apart.  We work too much, and have too little time for ourselves, our bodies, and our family and friends.  As I said before, people only had to work the land in permaculture for 2hrs a day, once in the morning, and once at night.  On weekends you can work the land for 30 min.  This can be a 1 person operation.  Why are we dumping our waste into the ocean, not collecting our rain water for ourselves, and not planting our own food? We have settled for convince but have we really made our lives happier? Is convenience more important or happiness.

Now, many will disagree with this next statement, but I feel it is true, "Farming is fun!" We have become so disconnected to the earth, and from our roots, that we cannot instinctively take care of our environment and ourselves.  Take action and read about farming, and start growing some plants of your own.  Find out about permaculture, biodynamic farming, etc.  Every plant planted, is a step in saving our world.  And our world needs saving.  I'm not getting richeous on you, or telling you what to do, but I am telling you what needs to be done.  Get out there and save the world, support the cause.  Our future generations are depending on us.

What can you do now? Start composting.  It is easy and requires little space.  You can even do it in a home with a plastic bin.  All you need is soil, and your food scraps.  If you have a house, provide barrels to collect rain water to water plants or use the water.  Start a garden.  Read about sustainable farming/permaculture/biodynamic farming.  Much can be done.  Why not start now?

  • My blog has been launched

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for coming to visit my profile.  I am happy and honored to be on this cite.

Recently I have been working very hard on getting my company I Heart Organic up and running.  Like this website, it will link people together in the health and environmental communities.  My goal is to get and I Heart Organic in every major city in the world.  What I am striving for is to educate and tell people why it is important to be organic.  So the cite to me is very important.  It is important because to me the name of this site, alivenotdead reflects upon what organic or green really means.  We act like organic or green is something new, when we have really been doing it since the beginning of time.

So, let me take this time to break down a little about organic and green.  Let’s think about this for a second.  Mother Nature has been creating living and non living plants since the beginning of time.  It is only because of the gun factories in WWI around the 1920's that we have conventional food.  How might you ask? Well these gun factories were going out of business during the time after the war, so they figured out that they could use the soil as modern day fertilizer.  So basically we are farming all of our crops in gunpowder right now.  And I don't know how you feel about this, but I don't feel very good.  The reason why we even have pests is because plants and insects have a symbiotic relationship with one another.  So basically the plants pulled a kamikaze and told the insects to eat them because they were bad for the earth.  But us humans got smart when we decided to play god, we then decided to spray pesticides.

Now I know what you might be asking yourself, no way, pests would attack a plant anyway.  I believe it was Rudolf Steiner who dumped barrels of pests onto his plants in order to prove that the pests would not attack his crops.  After dumping barrel after barrel of pest onto his crops he had only a 2% loss on his crops.  2% loss on crops is considered spectacular even for conventional standards.  My point in writing this to you is to tell you that the conventional companies say organic plants loose too many crops because of pests.  And I call bull shit.  If you farm correctly and you "do the right thing" you will seriously get good stuff with very little loss.

You might ask yourself, why in gods name is this important to me.  In the next 20 years lots and lots of interesting things are going to happen, especially environmentally.  Today I am sitting in SF (which usually has foggy summers) in about 75 degree temperature.  This is not normal, I'm not complaining about it, because I love this weather.  But, more inland it is 100 degrees or more.  This is what we call Global warming.  Guess what is one of the worst ozone pollutants; the distribution of chemicals!!!

My point to you is to make a difference in any way shape or form.  Organic and green is alive not dead.  Conventional is dead not alive.

I have 2 sisters and a mother in the Acting business, and I am often asked the question "why don't you become an actor."  My reason, "Because I feel I can change the world with what I am doing now."  My sisters and mother feel they can change the world with their talent as actresses.  And they are damn good actresses.  My calling is to change the world through them and with you.  Actors are who everyone looks up to.  Popular actors are respected and idolized.  This means that those who are popular have responsibility whether they like it or not.  So I'm calling all actors all artists, and everyone else reading this blog, to do what Bob Marley Said "Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right." I’m talking about your right and your future generation’s right to make a difference and keep living.  Because let me tell you the sad story if we do not make a difference, we wont have a world to live in, nor will we be able to survive in it.

    Viva la revolution!

    The I Heart Organic Revolution!

    With Love and Qi,

Mr. Organic (better known as Harry)
