  Before arriving at the Divas Ball, Guia Rivera stopped by the Filipino store Uni-Mart. She had a chance to meet fans at Uni-Mart. They asked her if she's the next Charice Pempengco. She said, "No, I am sexier & older."

  Special guests at Divas Ball 2009 Guia Rivera and Liz Torres were seated at the head table, thanks to event organizer Cynthia Velez. Rivera says it was an honor to meet Liz Torres, Queen of House.
  
  Speaker Evelyn Rose explained the acronymn D-I-V-A. D is for Determined, I is for Intelligent, V is for Valiant, A is for Acceptance. If you are all these things, you are a DIVA!

• December 2006 Red-I Chinatown Party Performance

  I remember this nite clearly. There was a blizzard, yet the girls and I were still determined to perform. We had gone shopping for matching outfits earlier at Gurnee Mills. We really wanted to go with the red, edgy theme of the Red-I venue in Chinatown. This first nightclub event kicked off an entire performance season of my act consisting of me as lead singer, and my girlfriends and I performing choreographed dance routines at the most popular nightclubs in Chicago. Choreographers were Lena Hayden and Alexis Woodard. Dancers also included Cameron Holmes, Gigi and Mary Jude. The fun part was attending dance practice with Lena, Alexis, Gigi, and Mary to prepare for my nightclub event performances, which occurred like regularly almost every weekend.
  
  And yes, even after sweating and performing, we're always ready for an impromptu shoot with photographer Rich Mohr.

• Puerto Rican Festival Performance

  Humboldt Park Chicago

  Those sticks are for the Singkil, a traditional Philippine dance based in Mindanao, the southern part of the Philippines. The dance is originally meant to tell the tale of a Muslim princess scurrying between tree branches. But I used the sticks for my performance to symbolically convey an animal in a cage with the various formations.
  
  My Uncle Gene gave Danny, Tommy, Spero, Randy (well, Randy was already a pro) and me a training session on how to clap to the Singkil rhythm and coached me on how to make my way between the sticks.
  
  I want to introduce a star bboy who's currently hot on the battle scene... Bboy Jet! He's my favorite Bboy, 'cos he was cool enough to duet with me! He stood in for Danny, who performed Singkil at the Vida Guerra event.
  
  Also in this routine, I stole famous jazz musician Greg Spero from his day job on the ivories. As a natural born leader, he led our drill team.
  
  Tommy is currently a musician (singer/songwriter) who can be found playing his original songs at a cafe, club, pub or bar near you in the Chicago suburbs.
  
  I grew up with Randy on the naval base. He actually plays the drums.
  
  Hey, it was a good rhythmic exercise for my musician friends.
  
  Oh, and 'twas Breaker Ray who dressed me up en los colores de la bandera for my performance.
