Here's some cute ASCII pics I found online that I thought I'd share cuz they're so impressively done...wow. And of course they're winter/Christmas related because today is December 25, Jesus' Birthday!! hehe ^.^!! Merry Christmas everyone!!
Here's a video of my crew, WreckBreakz, doing a little somethin' somethin' at the bi-annual hip hop show hosted by the hip hop crew - FLOW. The overall show was sick and a lot of fun, so check out the video below. The dancers are some of the current WreckBreakz dancers as well as a couple alumni that have graduated within the last couple of years. It was so amazing to see them back and throwing down a set with us. Miss you guys!!
After a 4 month hiatus of AnD, I've finally returned to my blogging ways... what little I had to begin with. I'm really just blogging tonight because I don't want to be studying. It's 2:47AM on a Saturday night/Sunday morning in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and right about now most students my age are sleeping or...dare I say, partying.
It's exam time right now for most university students and well...no one likes to study. At least, no one I know. There's really no point to this blog - just to say I'm back and I'm bored and ... I don't want to study haha. That's all for now. I'll write more later.
The only grandparent I have ever known just passed away at the beginning of this week. She was 92 years young. At her funeral today, I presented a speech to the guests present and a video presentation to commemorate her amazing life. Take a look.
Thank you for coming today to celebrate with me the life of
my grandmother, Ai Binh Tran.
My name is Virginia Lew. I am the youngest child of the
youngest daughter of Grandma. Today, I would like to share with you some of my
fondest memories of Grandma and the many things that I admire about her.
On my last day with Grandma, I remember sitting with her,
holding her hand and talking to her about how I was to return to school in the
east the following day. What I remember most from that day was not our
conversation, not the way she looked, but the feeling of holding her hand.
Just in holding her
hand I could feel that although she was physically weak, her hands still
conveyed a message of strength, courage, and confidence. As Grandma held my
hands, I could feel the pride she felt in me, and in all of her grandchildren
and great grandchildren. I could feel that even though she, herself was tired
and drained; she wanted us, her children and grandchildren to carry on with the
same conviction and certainty with which she had led her own life. As the
strong and brave woman that I had always known her to be in such a simple
gesture, this is the last memory I have of Grandma.
While I am so upset that I had already left for Ontario at
the time of Grandma’s passing, I am also relieved that Grandma had waited until
all of us had returned to our regular lives before she let go of her life in this
world. Grandma had always been one to think of others before herself, even in
death. Her selflessness and inner strength is an inspiration to all who have
had the pleasure of meeting my grandmother.
It is because I was unable to share Grandma’s last moments
with her that I would like to share with the rest of the world all the
wonderful moments Grandma has given to my family and I.
I have put together a short video of our family’s fondest
memories of Grandma. For those of you who are in mourning, I pray that you will
find comfort in knowing that Grandma has left this world fulfilled and proud.
Her worries and grief have been lifted away because she has watched every one
of her children and grandchildren grow into mature, successful adults who love
their family and follow in her footsteps.
And to my family, I hope that even though Grandma is no
longer with here with us, we will still be the strong bonded and supporting
family we have always been. I hope that by Grandma’s example, family will
forever be high on our list of priorities, and that we will cherish all the
relationships in our lives.
Today, let us not grieve over the passing of a great woman, but celebrate the life lessons and encouraging stories of a hero. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itka8G6b20A
My cousins and I went to try out archery tonight. It was the first time for all three of us, and after a quick tutorial and some practice, we decided to have a quick competition based on the following scoring system:
Bull's Eye: 5 points 2nd Ring: 4 points 3rd Ring: 3 points 4th Ring: 2 points White Area: 1 point
The final results: Virginia: 23 points Albert: 18 points Nathan: 12 points
DIDYA SEE THAT?! Virginia got 23 points! BLEW THE COMPETITION OUT OF THE WATER!! (not really...) but yes, I'll say it now. I am on my way to joining the Canadian Olympic Archery Team. That'z right. Bow to me...and I will shoot you in the bum with an arrow hehehe.
Alright that's enough cocky talk for now. It was lots of fun doing archery and I will definitely go again. Next fun activity? Shooting range!
saw this in albert's gb and though.... damn i'm fuckin' hilarious!
"did virginia just say "hellz" ???... now that is totally me! i swear that girl is just a photocopy of me... a crummy, faded photocopy that got paper jammed! :P Ya heard?!"
when you say post-secondary you mean college right? sorry never heard anyone say post-secondary before ;P. Buuwhawhawha? Prom? that's a long time from now!
Alright so as much as I would like to try grilled pho, it is not my real name. I'm Virginia, and welcome to my very lame Alivenotdead.com page!
I'm a second year Life Sciences major at Queen's University in Kingston, ON. I'm pretty much your average white-washed Asian girl...however I do speak the language (Canto...holla!!), listen to the occasional Asian hit single, and watch a sappy Taiwanese drama here and there. The only reason I am at all educated in the realm of Asian pop culture is due to my friends and somewhat fobby-but-not-fobby cousins. I owe them (and my parents!!) my Asian-ness!!
Even though I am Cantonese, I prefer the Taiwanese stars and dramas because let's face it...Wang Lee Hom is pretty much the cutest man on the planet!! He represents the Taiwanese well so if you're from Taiwan, be proud to have such a pretty man as one of your own...well sort of.
Umm...outside my Asian interests (what little there is), I'm very into hip hop culture. I'm a Bgirl (for those of you not up with the "lingo", that means break dancer of the female gender haha) and I love listening to anything with a hot beat. I'm trained as a jazz dancer so my style is a fusion of ballet and old school hip hop. I love to break it down wherever I am, but I'm too shy to ever do it in a club haha.
Hmm alright, that's me in a big-ass nut shell. If you're really curious...look me up on Facebook, but I won't guarantee you'll have access to my profile! Hahaa peace y'all!
Anyways, I'm kind of lonely on here with only one friend. I guess that's what I get for being the loner out West in Canada....all by my lonesome in my fobby adventures. Drop a line if you want =)!
