Like anything, there have nothing but massive errors. Someone (from media) starting
saying the words 'swine flu' and soon everyone caught on. Well, it really isn't swine and it is really 3 variations. Too late, China, Russia and numerous countries don't want North American pork (link).

Gary Stordy, spokeman for the Canadian Pork Council, insists that countries need to stop calling it 'swine flu'. Do you think this word can ever be dropped (link)?

Notice that more cases followed by an increase to level 5 (one step away from level 6) but then look around you -no one is wearing a mask on the streets of New York City and yet you have the occasional ambulance arrive due to someone reporting feeling ill.

It is a total nightmare. This news clip indicates the situation is dire. Look back at 1918 and you will see the virus came out and some people got sick and the situation with the Spanish flu improved until later it went berzerk.

The same situation could happen here as the virus spreads into more countries. Once there is an outbreak, the world as we know it could turn very ugly, very fast.

    Hey Gordon,

I think its advisable to also try adding some H1N1 Google maps to your portfolio. I think this one is fairly accurate:

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109496610648025582911.0004686892fbefe515012&ll=35.487978,-58.414994&spn=40.577184,116.519623&source=embed

I'd also checked one by a Dr Niman of a US bio-tech firm (which was used by some news agencies) but it is updated very slowly.

Big differences from 1918.  We track, we're organized, we have responses, we have drugs and sanitizing measures all then unavailable.  On the other hand, we travel much more than we did in 1918 so it's easier to deliver viruses internationally.  Plus, we're definitely bigger slobs.  I see people today just sneezing and coughing into people's faces - I don't know how it was in 1918 but when I was growing up cleanliness was drilled into us.  I also think that people are less socially conscious---it's all about me me me.  I have to get to work so my kid goes to school sick or not.  It's a problem.

What I'd like to know before I panic is this...what happened to the other kids at that prep school in NYC?  St. Francis?  How many confirmed cases are there?

I think you need the first dead reports in NY before the people start wearing masks...

I am afraid it isn't possible to stop the expression "swine flu" anymore.
I just hope we are well prepared with the pandemic emergency plan. Three persons with stated swine flu are put under quarantine here in germany...*keeps finger's crossed* and luckily it is coming in summer and not in winter..
