    se7en quickies: good fellas

Does the band’s name have anything to do with the Scorsese film?

    Po Kei:
No, it is not about the movie. Actually I haven’t even seen the movie yet! I came up with this name because we share very similar interests like music, lifestyle, British culture, drinking beer etc. So we are “fellas”. And aren’t we “good” enough? (laughs) So we called this gang Good Fellas. And as time goes by, I really have developed a strong feeling for this name – plus the logo is cool!

What was the first gig Good Fellas played?

Po Kei: It was Underground 71 last November. It was a nice show, and I think I was drunk!

Jim: Yep, we played seven to eight songs for our set. We observed how the audience reacted to our songs and kept re-arranging them to make them better, so you will see a big difference if you watch our recent gigs!

You described the band as a ‘three-chord genius’ – doesn’t that sound a bit bigheaded?

Jim: Three-chord genius is a very good description of us. You know, we don’t like to play many chords in one song. We make simple pop tunes and we always position Good Fellas as a pop band.

Po Kei: And to me “three-chord” also carry a punk attitude with it! For the “genius” part, I will say I just want to remind myself of my rock’n’roll ego!

What was the last record you bought/downloaded/lagged?

Po Kei: I just bought Peter Doherty’s new solo album Grace/ Wastelands. I have been waiting for it for three months! I love the album, Peter is inspiring, plus Graham Coxon does some guitar on it, which is very cool!!

If you Google the band, what is the weirdest thing that shows up?

Po Kei: There is a soccer team called Good Fellas too. You can also find them on Youtube.

Proudest moment of the band so far?

Po Kei: I am proud of being in Good Fellas, rocking the stage, and getting so involved in the studio. It’s hard to find some nice fellas to share a common goal with!

Jim: We are proud of opening for The Penelopes this month too.

Which song you would like to play at your own funeral?

Jim: Perfect Day by Lou Reed. This song will suit my wedding as well.

Energy punk trio Good Fellas are Po Kei (guitar/vocals), Egg (bass/vocals) and Jim (drum/vocals). They will play at the opening party of Something to Say, an art exhibition inspired by interesting T-shirts people wear in our city. Featured artists are Gabe and Haruka Ashida Ostley, Emily Eldridge, and Ashley and Wesley Terpstra. The party starts on June 19 at 7pm at Philia Lounge and entry is free.

  • "SOMETHING TO SAY" exhibition (Art + Music)

    Monday, Jun 15, 2009 10:29AM / Event

    "SOMETHING TO SAY"

is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and collages from five different artists living and working in Hong Kong. The show explores the messages we see on the shirts passing by around us, the characters that wear them, the meanings we feel, and the humor and understanding that results from these fleeting glimpses as we share and disappear into the bustling streets of Hong Kong.

    Date : 19-Jun-2009

Time : 7pm to 9pm (Art Exhibition) / 9pm to 10pm (Live Music by GOOD FELLAS)

Venue : Philia Lounge, 4 arbuthnot road, central, hk
