My blog

  • Music - original, jam?

    Friday, Oct 17, 2008 4:10PM / News

An overdue project I admit. But I am finally doing a little bit with my original songs. I thought, why not? After all, I have stopped calling them nonsense songs. I wrote a lot of silly ones since I was 13, but last year I wrote a song for my dad after he passed and have stopped making fun of my songs since. Then a couple months ago, I performed a song I wrote about human life from an alien's point of view. Two of my dear friends like it enough to have it be a small part of their play.

So I'm looking for musicians who might like to jam. My writing is folk and jazz inspired. I don't know how to describe my own music but my brothers say I have too much of a story in most of my songs and many of them might be musical material. Hmm, yea I get it, not raido friendly. Haha. Well, if anyone out there wants to hear it and jam (I like strawberry) or collaborate, please drop me a message and I can share my songs with you. :-)

  • Where was I?

    Wednesday, Aug 27, 2008 8:09AM / Standard Entry

Yes I know. Very sloppy with my blogs.

I was in Oh! by Elangovan which was wonderful. I performed an original song, and have been hosting at a few special events.

I have also been rehearsing for I Theatre's Rainbow Fish, a fun musical for kids and the young at heart. It's sold out every year and this year is no different. Before the 61 shows begin, the tickets are already sold out!

Thanks to all who've visited recently. I apologise for the absence. I have been tired and a little down. But everything's good. I'm just making sure I don't forget to enjoy the journey. :-)

    Take care!
    Jilly

  • Please come watch "Tuesday Afternoon" this Saturday!

    Tuesday, Jul 1, 2008 2:19PM / Event

    Ok, did that sound confusing?

I'm sorry. It's just that I am prudent yet quietly proud that I finally wrote my first theatre piece. Not for a corporate event, not for kids, not for any monetary benefit. Now why did I write it? I don't know. I just had to tell the story of... Zelda and Susan. Yes but not quite.

Growth, changes, choices and sacrifices. It's only 30 minutes and will be staged at the Substation (Armenian St, Singapore) at 8pm on Saturday July 5th (just a couple days away!). I am honoured that the Substation has selected it to be part of their Test Tube event, a free works-in-progress showing, so it'll probably be a read rather than a performance.

Ok, I admit I find it daunting.

After much thought, I've decided to title this short piece "Tuesday Afternoon". This is the write-up I sent to Substation:

"A long overdue visit from a friend brings back happy memories from the past. Yet it also reveals the inevitable and impending future she has to face. The gravities of time and life refuse to be ignored, in what would have otherwise been a regular afternoon."

    Ok, did that sound tacky?

  • An update ... finally!

    Friday, Jun 20, 2008 1:33AM / Standard Entry

Hi all, thank you for our kind patience. I apologize for the inactivity. So what's new with me? I am flattered if you'd really like to know, but it's not much really. Just the regular work.

I was recently on an episode of Sayang Sayang (Channel 5). When my character said the line: "and I love to cook...", my brothers burst out laughing, "Yeah right!"

I've been busy working on some stage work and enjoying the process. Also filming an episode of Moonface for Kids Central. I had to turn down some hosting jobs because I hate having to cancel on anyone. So that's affected my income slightly. But as an actor I am always learning and growing so I feel rich and blessed in that department. :-)

I will be leading the 5th episode of Incredible Tales (Channel 5) one of these Sundays. I've also been trying to catch myself in the Starhub TVC on television. I need to thank Andrew Lua for that.

I've been singing. Thank you so much to all of came to hear humble little me and my awesome band! I'm writing a small play to be staged at the Substation. I've been in plays written by my friends, one of which was staged in contribution to NAC's Singapore Arts Fest. As a matter of fact, I have to be in one in a few hours... So I have to go get some sleep now.

That's kinda all folks. For now. I will write more soon!
