A Look Back at 2010

At the beginning of each new year, I look back and am always amazed at how many projects I've worked on. Here's just a recap of some of the projects I did in the 2nd half of 2010.

Project 420 - Webseries

This project was fun because I had to work in multiple genres. We had to have stereotypical psychedelic stoner rock from the 60's of course, though it was updated to make it a bit more modern. Then there was Indian sitar and tabla tracks and even old timey big top circus music.I arranged a cover of “Champagne ...Read more

Double Rainbow

I just saw my first double rainbow with my own eyes! It was so bright and came after almost a week of nonstop rain, something we don't normally get in Los Angeles. But after all that dreary weather that made me want to curl up on the couch and be lazy (though I did get quite a bit of composing done while staying in), it was a nice surprise to see such a beautiful sight.

Romance on the Beach

Just came across this movie Fereshteh that I scored a while ago. If you're a sucker for romantic movies, this is a good one, just stick with it, the opening seems like a documentary, but it's actually a film within a film, where the main character is a documentary filmmaker. So it'll take a few minutes to get into the romance, but that's also when you get to hear the music that I wrote!

Agents of Secret Stuff hits 3 Million Views

My latest collaboration with Ryan Higa and Wong Fu Productions just hit 3 MILLION views on Youtube in the first 5 days of it's release! What can I say; I am astounded! I was honored to work with Ryan Higa, who is the #1 most subscribed channel on Youtube (where he is known as NigaHiga) with around 3 million subscribers. I found it interesting that Read more

Beautiful Day to be Lost on an Island

Last weekend I spent a beautiful day soaking up the sun and breathing in magnificent views from a day trip to Santa Cruz Island. I only slept an hour the night before, but hiking in such gorgeous surroundings really energized me. Why was I so sleep deprived? Aside from that being the norm for a film composer...I was hired to score a PSA for the Formosa Foundation's fundraiser dinner, and I only had a single Friday to do it. I spent the entire day composing, except to take food breaks and to sneak out for a bit to cat...Read more

Slip 'n Slide - Cute Film

Slip 'n Slide (Dir. by Emily Lu) is a short film that was created for Visual Communications' Armed With a Camera Fellowship, but most importantly it features a bunch of cute kids. It was one of those fun, quick, and easy scores to create, and I hope it reminds you of being a kid.

Trailer Music

Making trailers is a real art form and I'm the type that likes to get to the theater early to watch trailers before movies. I'm fascinated by how trailers cut a movie down to two minutes and get you excited to watch. Although sometimes they reveal too many of the best parts of a movie, they are a marketing tool and are created to sell a movie.

I also love how epic and intense trailer music can be. It's not just background music that has to avoid intruding on a scene, it's all out emotion and energy to grab your attention...Read more

Fireworks + Music = AWESOME

Last night was America's Independence Day, so I took the day off from making music (check out Funemployed Ep. 3&4 released last week which I scored. Already working on new episodes!) to lounge on the beach, eat, watch soccer, and caught some amazing fireworks from the 4th floor deck of a lawyer friend's beach house. So if you want a house on the beach, go to law school and not music school.

I'm a big soccer fan and caught up on World Cu...Read more

Marching Into The Light (For Arizona)

I produced this song that my friend

Andres Useche wrote in response to recent

events in Arizona, where a law based on racial profiling has passed.

Please share it with your friends. It's both a catchy tune and a positive message. Andres previously wrote "Si Se Puede Cambiar" (it means "Yes we can change" in Spanish), which was a hit on Obama's campaign trail. I produced, recorded/mixed, played piano, and even sang b...Read more

LA Asian Pacific Film Festival Trailer

I'm excited about the upcoming Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. I go every year, and have an amazing time seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. This year I had the privilege of being asked to compose music for the festival's trailer that precedes every screening, and I was more than happy to support such a great festival which promotes the amazing work of many Asian American talents. I was also thrilled with the artistic freedom to do a spectacular piece of music for a wonderful piece of animation ...Read more
