The village is really well maintained and the village head, Mr Tsang Kin Tim was very accommodating to us. after the recce we selected the main central courtyard as being the best spot for the shoot.
we'd already selected our dancer for this project , Joanne Chow Hiu Man an experienced Chinese Traditional dancer who trained at the APA. We wanted to do something connected with the long sleeve dance. so enlisted Crystie Li to design a contemporary dress to fit the occasion.
next step was rehearsal time, this we did on Blow Up's roof at Tung Kin. how would Joanne look, what's the best movement, would the dress and especially the sleeves work?
Plenty of food for thought after the test and modifications soon follow........
a week later we're off to the shoot, it's a glorious winter morning with bright sunshine which of course doesn't get down into the courtyard, fortunately Alan has the powerpacks and lights in tow. here's how it looked from behind the scenes..........
Gareth tries to look knowledgeable when discussing chinese dance with Joanne
and here's how it looked through the camera
