  • Pina Bausch - Thank you

    Wednesday, Jul 8, 2009 5:21AM / Standard Entry / Drama Queen

This is a tribute to Pina Bausch who died last week. She was a major contributor to Contemporary Dance as well as Drama, combining them in a new art form : "Tanztheater".                When I discovered her work some times ago, I promised myself that I'll see all her shows. Unfortunately, I have seen only "Vollmond", two years in ago at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
It made me cry. It was so beautiful, so moving.
As artists, as spectators, we all owe her a big thank you. She'll be missed.

  • Quartier Pigalle (Never too late)

    Monday, Jul 6, 2009 12:38AM / Standard Entry / Drama Queen

Ok, so I have to admit that I  forgot to write this on time (as an excuse I am just coming back from glamorous Marrakech as well as the wonderful Sahara and I was not connected to the web for almost two weeks).

As you may know the show "Quartier Pigalle" ran last week at the Fringe Club and was played by a cast of French amateurs directed by Emilie Guillot from HKTA.
I had the opportunity to co-write this play with Emilie. It was very exciting to do because, at the time of writing, characters had already been imagined by the cast and so the idea was to bring my writing and creativity to a pre-existing canvas.  It was my first contribution as an author to a show  and I really loved it.  I was not in HK last week but apparently the show was a blast,  I hope that you had a chance to see it !!

  • Acting School in Asia ??? Need advice from And actors...

    Thursday, Jun 4, 2009 12:39AM / Standard Entry / Drama Queen

    Hi Everyone,

After a very interesting year at Cours Florent in Paris I am thinking of making my life easier with all these back and forth flights and so... to go back to Asia and enroll in a local acting school... I mean full-time / professional /  acting school.
Unfortunately, in Hong Kong, there is only HKAPA and chinese is more or less customary so this is not an option for the gweilo that I am...
If you have any recommendation for a drama or film school in "Near Hong Kong - Asia" (China, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines...) I would be happy to hear about it !!!

Thank you so much in advance for any advice that you may have !!!

    Cheers

    Gaelle

  • Blame the cat

    Friday, May 8, 2009 6:16PM / Standard Entry / stand-up material

I have this joke about my Boyfriend who offered me a cat cause I was constantly complaining that he worked too much and that I was lonely at home. And he promised he'll find a solution and... here's the cat.

I also used to say that my cat is useless - just another person at my place afraid of the vacuum cleaner. But I just realized that he actually loves me. I flew home from Paris yesterday and my cat seemed actually very pleased to see me. And so, in order to express his gratitude he gave me a nice set of two dead mouses and a big rat nicely disposed on my lovely kilim rug (yeah I am living in the countryside and we have a garden and it's a cat paradise, I can tell you my cat does not need any of these pastries they sell at Three Dog Bakery in Happy Valley. Frankly, if you think your cat is depressed, save the shrink (not the shrimp though as they like it) and just move to the N.T)
I had to text my friend Nic :
"I'll be late for lunch. Blame my cat". Or the rats depending on which side you are taking.

  • Inspiring wedding

    Sunday, May 3, 2009 7:06PM / Standard Entry / blah blah blah

Being in Paris this year after five years spent full-time in Hong Kong  (I am currently doing an acting training at Cours Florent in Paris) means that I can spend more quality time with my friends back home.

Yesterday, I went to my friend Soraya's - who is  French born Algerian - traditional wedding. She was my BF when we were teenagers and used to bring me to such Arabic weddings but yesterday was really the first time I was so moved. The music, the dancing, the "youyous" (sounds made by woman to express celebration), the amazing dresses (the bride has to wear at least 5 different dresses during the evening!) and the rituals… everything was totally thrilling and inspiring.

As a friend, I was deeply moved. As an artist, I knew there was something in the air that I will someday use either in my acting or writing.

This evening reminded me that multiculturalism has always been a main vector in my life. And that’s why I chose Hong Kong five years ago.

    Keep posted...
