During May and June, I took a 9hrs per week acting class with Eric Forestier who is a young French Director. From the start, I knew I was going to like the man's
method cause he asked us to read three challenging books before the class
begins: two novels -Crime and Punishment
from Dostoevsky and Moderato Cantabile
from Marguerite Duras - as well as a Lars Noren’s play.
At the beginning of
each class, two or three students had a casting trial and then different crews
recorded scenes extracted from one of the books. I worked mainly on two scenes,
one from Duras, one from Dostoevsky as well a monologue from Eyes wide Shuts. I
had also the opportunity to direct a monologue by myself and realizing that I actually
helped this student to improve his acting ability made me proud. That was an amazing class where I did learn a lot under Eric's supervision and got a better understanding of how to behave in front of the camera's eyes.
The first feature of Eric Forestier "The Third
Part of the World” was released in June 2008 and stars famous French actors
such as Gaspard Ulliel and Clemence Poesy (Harry
potter, In Bruges). Below an extract but in French, sorry.
