BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS 十月围城 TOP-NOTCH CAST & CREW @ FILMART 2009 (UPDATE JULY 6TH, 2009)

“Pre-press conferences” (press con of movies before they’re even shot) are often uninteresting, because there is gererally not much to say, especially for the actors (remember “The Storm Riders II 風雲2” in 2008). But for 1st press conference of “Bodyguards and Assassins 十月围城” (ex-“Dark October”) at the Hong Kong Filmart 2009, it was not the case. During almost one hour, Manfred Wong interviewed producer Peter Chan 陳可辛, director Teddy Chen 陳德森, and one - big - part of the amazing cast of the movie (Here we go: Donnie Yen 甄子丹 Simon Yam 任達華, Tony Leung Kar-fai 梁家輝, Nicholas Tse 謝霆鋒, Fan Bing-bing 范冰冰, Eric Tsang 曾志偉, Leon Lai 黎明, Hu Jun 胡軍, and Wang Po-chieh 王柏傑) about this very exiting project. PARIS CINEMA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2009: CRAZY LINE-UP!

Chaired by (French-speaking) English actress Charlotte Rampling and supported by the City of Paris, the 7th edition of the Paris Cinema International Film Festival (a.k.a. Festival Paris Cinéma) will take place in various Parisian locations – 15 different venues ! - from July 2nd to 14th, 2009.
Like the previous years, there will be a few hundreds of screening (including thirty premieres presented by film crews for some of them)...
Johnny Depp and Michael Mann will be there. Sacha Grey and Soderbergh won't.
... a lot of free events (screenings of the film compilation Retour de Flamme – rares silent movies presented by Serge Bromberg and Lobster Films), and for the first time, a vintage cinema trade market: “Brocante Cinéma”.

There will be also for the first a “Nuit du Cinéma” (Night of the Cinema) on July 4th, where people will be able to watch movies non-stop from 8 pm until the next morning.

Tributes will be dedicated to Italien actress Claudia Cardinale, French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud, Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang, Spanish producer Lluis Miñarro and his company Eddie Saeta.

A special focus will be made on Turkish cinema with 40 films screened, and 20 guests invited (including directors Yesim Ustaoglu and Reha Erdem, who’ll have their works spotlighted).

With the animation night, Children program will also includes a “Trip around the world of Animation” with movies from China, Denmark, the UK, Iran, Latvia, Japan, the USA, the Czech Republic, Russia, Argentina, Poland and France.

FAR EAST FILM FESTIVAL 2009: LINE-UP & GUESTS

The 11th edition of the Far East Film Festival, will take place in Udine (Italy) between April 24th and May 2nd, 2009. There will be 56 titles from 9 Far East countries (China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore) and 35 guests who’ll do interviews and participate to the daily seminars. An impressive retrospective dedicated to Hong Kong director Ann Hui will propose over 10 hours of her TV works from the 70’s, which were never seen in the West before. There will also have a special section about Thai-Action movies, a workshop dedicated to intercontinental formation in cinema, and a live performance by the Japanese psych rock band Yura Yura Teikoku.

“SOUNDLESS WIND CHIME” HKIFF 2nd SCREENING : ALMOST SOLD OUT (HOPEFULLY)

Finally, the theater in the Hong Kong City Hall was almost full, but hopefully - for me - not completely full like for the first screening (press pass only works for the non-sold out screening) ...
...so I was able to see the movie on big screen (otherwise, i'd have to see it in the video room) and then, the interesting Q&A session (I video shot it as well), where Kit Hung and Lu Yulai answered to the questions of the audience.
After that, they continued to discuss, sign autographs, and take pictures, with the audience outside the theater...
...and then, in the (late) afternoon, there was a party to celebrate the birthday of Lu Yulai.
