ACTORS & DIRECTORS IN LOS ANGELES,
We are creating a group where we meet up once a week to work on scene work. We invite directors with credits to come in and work with us on a scene which we have prepared for and work with the director to push the scene further.
It's an opportunity for the DIRECTOR - to exercise the muscle of communicating with actors. And trust me, there is an art to it. Behind every great performance, is a great director. We encourage anyone in the industry with directing credit (i.e. film festival, experience in TV & film) to find these sessions most beneficial.
It's an opportunity for the ACTOR - to work with various types of directors. And master the technique of quick adjustments, and being able to share & play more with the directors vision. We only accept actors into the group that have had extensive acting experience. We do not teach you how to act, you must have your method and technique down. The sessions are most beneficial to those that want to keep their tools sharp and learn how to work with a director on creating a better stronger scene.
All those that are interested in participating that have met the above criteria, please contact me via email : fayetheactor@gmail.com. We are shortlisting interested parties and will notify you if you have made the cut. The date and time of our sessions will be disclosed to those that have successfully fulfilled the requirements.
OK - yes yes, very serious stuff :) But it is a magical experience, and the bond between director and actor is privileged and special ; hence the need to ensure those in the group are of that same mentality that you must respect and love the art - that your purpose in life is to tell stories. And by exercising the muscle of listening and communicating, both director and actor benefit...truly.
WORD!

Distances you can't even imagine, beautiful people, overweight people, white, hispanic, chinese, fast food, palm trees, blue skies, chilly nights...and the stars.
Ahhhh, LA. Just splendidly enriched with the movie culture, that everywhere you go - there are scripts, agents, managers, producers, actors at every corner. How to stand out? Just by not being overwhelmed by it all. It is a city like no other, with movie making on everyones mind.
I had two meetings yesterday, with two managers - verdict? Only time will tell. LA, is a tough cookie to crack so if you do move here, have meetings, lots of them - lots of them - to give you purpose. If you don't know anyone here, it just ensures you keep on your track, remember why you are here - ok, I am clearly having one of those moments where I'm pretending to talk to someone but actually I'm talking to myself. One of those, self monologues us actors do so frequently.
Don't waiver and believe in your reasons for being here. It is your passion, your dream, your destiny, your responsibility, your idea, your moment, your decision to take a leap of faith and if I fail, I will fail MAGNIFICENTLY at it.
Peace you wonderful people in this glorious industry.

I created a group that does scene work sessions once a week at Sinema Old School here in Singapore. But honestly, once a week for me is barely enough!
I'm privileged enough to also be involved in the Tisch Drama Lab Rep Company, where they literally throw you into a scene, with a director, and a playwright - and then you experiment with how the scene should play out. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! You have two hours of rehearsal and then we present it to the group - other actors, directors and playwrights for feedback.
This happens every Tuesday at NYU Tisch Asia.
So, that is my Tuesday & Wednesday covered. But honestly, I could do this 7days a week - your memory muscle becomes soooo strong, and you literally pick up the script, spend 15 minutes getting off book - identify the beats of the scene, your intentions, objectives, close your eyes and imagine the circumstances and then before you know it, you've found your character too. Of course, ideally if you had weeks to prepare this, the work would be 1000% times better, but jsut for the here & now situation, you surprise yourself with how good and quick you get with working a scene.
So, what am I saying exactly? Scene work is imperative prep for any actor (my personal opinion so if you disagree - write your own blog account) - and it keeps the acting mind active. I believe no actor should ever be caught without a script. Whether it's in their bag, in their diary as long as they have something on them to escape to as the day goes on.
This is so that, no matter where you are - you can draw upon inspiration wherever you may be. And reading the lines on a bus, in the streets, at a cafe, while your waiting to go into another audition (sometimes this helps take the edge off too) can spur the most original realisations about your character.

It wasn't a huge role for me to play out, but I played a small supporting role last night in a telemovie called "Big Town on Little Street" on Channel five. The reviews are in:

Hi there actors in Singapore,
Every week Wednesday between 7p.m.-9p.m.
we conduct an actors scene work session. These sessions only consist of
between 6-8 actors that participate in scene work; ensuring there is
sufficient time and takes to push performance and establish the makings
of character in each scene.
We invite film directors with credits to conduct these sessions with us and this is supported by Sinema Old School which is an organisation that is the independent feature film hub of Singapore. They are most pro-active within the arts community here specifically related to film.
We are, opening the portal up for other actors out
there to join us in scene work. Spaces are strictly limited and the
pre-requisite for attending is that this is NOT a session suitable for
actors with no experience as it is not an acting 101 workshop. We focus
on performance and character and working with real directors so our
selection process is based on the work you have done as actors. We
invite all those with short film, theatre, TV experience to find these
sessions most beneficial.
If you are interested in attending, please do contact me at fayetheactor ( at )gmail.com direct and I will secure you a spot for attendance and the requirements you will need to have prepared for in scene.
Looking forward to meeting you - and remember, acting is a muscle that
must never remain dormant. And sessions like these ensure your tools
stay sharp.
