  • US movie review: "The Hangover"

    Wednesday, Sep 16, 2009 1:00PM / Standard Entry / US Movie Review

Everyone I know who saw this film has said good things about it,  so I was a bit wary when I finally watched it, I didn't want to go into it with too high expectations and just be disappointed.

My fears were not warranted,  it was quite entertaining the whole way through.  Think of '40 year old virgin' type humor.  Much better than some of the other 'Vegas bachelor Party gone wrong' films I've seen. (this one really kind of sucked)

It actually reminded me a bit of the Vegas bachelor party I went to back in '04... (no tiger, but we also had a stack of empty cans in the suite!)

    7/10.

  • Coke Zero ads...

    Tuesday, Sep 15, 2009 7:30PM / Standard Entry / AnD-specific

hey guys,  for those in HK -  you may have noticed another round of Coke related ads.  this time its for a Coke Zero fashion collboration with 'Neighborhood'.

    (a blog within a blog!)

    Their mini site is here:

They did a series of fashion products that are Coke Zero themed:
Its an interesting idea.  I'm not big on 'street fashion', but apparently Neighborhood Technical Apparel' is a pretty big Japanese street fashion brand - http://www.neighborhood.jp

Accordng to my sources, the campaign is going really well,  originally the campaign was supposed to go for four weeks but because the products are selling so well,  they think they're going to sell out within only two weeks!  So go get it while you can!

Also our Esprit collaboration is going really well,  I'll post up some stuff about that soon too.

  • US Movie Review: "Ninja Cheerleaders"

    Tuesday, Sep 15, 2009 3:00PM / Standard Entry

The title should actually be 'Ninja Cheerleaders Who Are Also Strippers'....
A DVD I picked up last year in China that I never got around to watching.... This is one of those movies where they make all their money just from the title, not based on any actual contents of the film.  Its an extremely low budget film that I'm assuming went straight to DVD (or straight to Cinemax).

Somehow they got George Takei to be in this film.   He plays the ninja master / strip club proprieter who's three top ninja disciples / star exotic dancers (who also happen to be Jr. college cheerleaders) must rescue when the mob tries to take over his club.

    Not exploitative at all.....

I'll give it a 3/10.  It tried...   but with no budget, it ends up resorting on the basest of the base... hot chicks with sorts with occasional exotic dancing thrown in to keep guys from feeling too ripped off. :-P

(as bad as this movie is,  I enjoyed it more than Zohan)... their ninjitsu was not impressive, but the cheerleaders were cute.  :-P

  • Macau24.com Launch @ Cubic

    Monday, Sep 14, 2009 8:01PM / Standard Entry / Macau

Last Tuesday was a really full day for me.  I was in Beijing in the morning and flew back to HK in the early evening.  As soon as I landed I ran for the airport express train because I had a tight schedule.  I had to run to the Macau Ferry Terminal (after a brief detour to the office to drop off my suitcase).

I had a boat to catch! It was the launch party for our friends' new Macau website,  Macau24.com (you may have seen some banners running for it).  Its basically a nightlife and activity guide for Macau's quickly growing nightlife sector.

Bob, Hiro and I all ended up on the same boat to Macau.

It was pretty swank, they had a limo pick us up at the ferry even! (Hiro and Bob trying to play it cool and make people believe they ride around in stretch limos all the time).

Unfortunately they forced us to share the limo... with a bunch of exotic models... doh. :-P

Laura is from Romania,  you may remember her from such staged Etchy blog pictures as this one.

Unfortunately my camera started showing the 'low battery' sign after too many limo shots (I forgot to recharge it before leaving Beijing).  So I had to get frugal with using the flash for the rest of the night.

Here we are arriving at the Macau24.com launch party venue - at Club Cubic,  Macau's hottest club (non-casino club, I should say).

I declined the offer to sign. :-P

They had some interesting body painting on display...  I'm not exactly sure if she was supposed to be the night time sky + a disco ball or what...  but the paint was head to toe! very impressive.

Who better to perform at the opening of Macau24.com then the only band I know of with the number '24' in their name?

Do I need to explain what's going on in this picture?

Not as 'cool' as 24Herbs, but much more pleasing on the eyes were the 'Japanese style' Go-go Dancers:
Macau24.com hired too Japan style Exotic dancers to perform throughout the night as well (this is Macau after all).  They were quite entertaining. It turns out one of them is from Osaka and the other is actually from Taiwan.  They were quite entertaining...

The reason i refer to them as 'Japanese Style'  dancers and not just Japanese dancers is because only one of them is Japanese, the other is from Taiwan.   But who's checking passports at a time like this?

It actually got a bit racy at points:
Sorry, gotta keep it family friendly!  Just imagine what may be covered up in this picture, and then multiple it by 10, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what you missed out on. :-P

Oh yes... there are benefits to being a co-sponsor,  you get a table right up next to the stage.
    :-P

Kano and NiuNiu. Very nice girls!

Congrats to Macau24.com!  check them out (and then click on the alivenotdead.com banner once you are done looking around! ;-)

  • US movie review: "Knowing"

    Monday, Sep 14, 2009 1:00PM / Standard Entry / US Movie Review

Nicholas Cage sci-fi/fantasy about predicting disasters using a bizarre sequence of numbers found on a piece of paper in a time capsule.

The film is pretty well crafted, dialed up creepiness and forboding to the max at times.  The ending gets a bit cheesy unfortunately,  but that happens quite a bit in these kinds of movies.  (the build-up is always better than the finish).

6/10 (7/10 if you enjoy creepy suspense).
