I'm no expert on kimono, but i find them to be an interesting
modern manifestations of traditional culture that survives in uber-modern Japanese society.
When I was living in Japan, one of the striking things is that sometimes you'll see people walking down the street in traditional Japanese clothes. Sometimes its for special occasions like weddings/graduations/etc, sometimes its for holiday festivals, going to shrines, etc. All Japanese girls have a 'Coming of Age' ceremony (成人の日, Seijin no Hi) when they are 20 that they wear kimono for too.
Here are some of my pics of kimono from Japan. I thought this would be a good subject to balance to my Harajuku album! Some are pictures from events or out on the street, some are ones sent to me by my friends (i hope they don't mind me sharing them here!)
