Regular Etchy blog readers may have noticed that its been quite a while since I went biking... or at least since I put up a blog about biking.  Its because I haven't been going!  Between my parents visiting in November and then Legend FC promotion and the holidays,  I went a good two and a half months without a single ride.

For those who aren't familiar,  I actually bought a bike three and a half years ago when I was living in the New Territories (countryside part of HK), but a year later I moved closer to downtown and ever since my bike has been a 'ronin bike' (浪人單車)... on weekends I ride it from one place to another then lock it up somewhere and come back another time to ride it somewhere else.

Which means a two and a half months of no biking = two and a half months of leaving my bike unattended locked to a railing somewhere on the opposite side of the territory.    After a few weeks you begin to wonder if its still there (or all still in one piece).  After a month or two you're like "ok, it must have been either stolen, stripped or impounded!"... needless to say when I finally found some time to go get it, I was 90% expecting to not find it -

    But I was wrong! :-P

All in one piece... just covered in about an inch of dust...    This is actually in Tuen Mun (a place most of you have never been before, even if you've lived in HK for a long long time).

I moved it to a legal bike parking spot (since I didn't know when I would actually be able to come back).  I was lucky enough to manage to come back the week after (after 2manyDJs) for some night riding.

As soon as I recover my stationary bike, we are going for a ride.

Joanne - Yeah Japan its almost non-existent... even with all the drunkenness...  very few fights, no hooligan stabbings, etc...

worst you have to deal with is 'bosozoku' and of course train perverts... (which as a guy is not really on my radar, but it IS a common and serious issue for women...)

Wow I heard Japan is a pretty decent place for petty crime activity, shame England can't take a few hints. Leave anything unattended around here and it won't be there twenty minutes later.

joanne - HK is not like Japan... where its impossible to tell the difference between an abandoned bicycle and a bicycle that just happens to be left unlocked for a long time... because you can leave a bike unlocked for weeks at a time and it never goes anywhere.

I wouldn't even expect a bike to be in one piece in areas like Mayfair in London when left this long. Tuen Mun sounds to be an unusual place in this day and age! Hope you get to do more biking soon.

jack - i've taken a ferry to Tung Chung from there before.  :-P

I was thinking 'ronin' more in the fact that it wanders from place to place... but yes. basically a homeless neglected latch key bike... :-(

Well, if it has a master and the master has a home, then technically the bike has a home too and therefore isn't homeless; more like neglected...but that sounds even less cool and homeless.

Tuen Mun has two things worthy of note, all you can eat BBQ pits and the ferry to Shekou if I'm not mistaken...

flagday - technically it isn't a ronin since it has a 'master', just no home...  so its more like 'homeless bike'  but that sounds less cool. :-P
