  • Happy Loving Day -- 41st Birthday of Legalization of Interracial Marriage

    Friday, Jun 13, 2008 1:12AM / Standard Entry

Below is a message from the Loving Day organization, headed by my fellow Hapa friend, Ken Tanabe.

Forty one years ago today, Richard and Mildred Loving walked out of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC. After nine years of struggle, they won the right to be together as an interracial couple. They also won that right for interracial couples nationwide, ending about 400 years of racist laws that existed in 35 states. So today, we celebrate our legal right to marriage and relationships without regard to race.

This year is particularly significant because Mrs. Loving tragically passed away. While we are saddened by this, we can also be inspired by her historic achievement. Mrs. Loving was a regular person from a small town who made a big difference. We can all make a difference as well. Let's teach our children, friends, and relatives about the Loving decision. Let's fight the prejudice that still exists for people in interracial, international, and intercultural relationships. Let's join together as a community of many races, cultures, and nationalities to celebrate Loving Day.

Click here see Loving Day Celebrations happening nationwide! Take a look at our list of celebrations to see if there's one near you:

It's fun and easy to host your own Loving Day Celebration with our free Celebration Kit in PDF format. Click here to download.

If you host a Celebration, be sure to share it with us! Take photos or videos and post them online through Flickr or YouTube:

All the best to you and yours, and Happy Loving Day!

  • Doing the Terrorist Tap

    Thursday, Jun 12, 2008 11:42PM / Standard Entry

The Fox "News" channel is being mocked across the blogosphere for trying to tie Barack Obama to terrorism because of a hand shake with his wife.   How stupid does the Fox "News" channel think the American public is?

Here are two more terrorists:  Former President George H.W. Bush and tennis star Anna Kournakova:

And here are two MORE terrorists:  current President George W. Bush and.... the Pope.

  • "TRE" DVD Never Out of Stock at Cinema Libre Store

    Monday, Jun 9, 2008 5:14AM / Standard Entry

Thanks for letting me know that the links I posted last month for buying Tre DVD's on line keep going out of stock, so here is a place where it will never be out of stock, because this is the distributor itself.

    Cinema Libre Studio DVD Store

Also, the current issue of Hyphen magazine has an article about me and the film, and mixed-race identity. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but the author Elaine Low and I had a great conversation. Oh, and when I did the photo shoot I was sick as a dog and the lights were blinding me so don't make fun.

  • Jim Webb Introduces Barack Obama's 1st Speech as Democratic Nominee for President of the United States

    Saturday, Jun 7, 2008 5:48PM / Standard Entry

This video captures a meaningful moment for Annabel and for me... witnessing the candidate we'd volunteered for in 2006 introduce the candidate we've volunteered for (in five states) in 2008. This video chronicles the moments leading up to Barack Obama's first speech as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States at the Nissan Pavilion in Manassas, VA.

The spirit of inclusion, fairness, opportunity, and respect that inspired Real Virginians For Webb nearly two years ago is even more crucial in Virginia, and in America, today. We will soon unfurl the Real Virginians banner once again, this time, perhaps we will call ourselves Real Virginians for Obama. And perhaps in a few months time, the proper name will be Real Virginians for Obama/Webb, as Jim Webb is often mentioned as a possible Vice Presidential nominee.

For those who don't know the story, the name "Real Virginians For Webb" was coined by Annabel Park during the 2006 Senate campaign, after the incumbent Sentator George Allen (R) had pointed to an Asian American man during a stump speech and said, "Let's have a round of applause to welcome macaca to America... Welcome to America and the Real World of Virginia." As Annabel explains in this video, our aim was to remind Senator Allen that Real Virginians are not defined by what you look like, we are defined by values that we share.

PS: I had high hopes for Obama even as far back as 2006 when I returned to Virginia to volunteer for Jim Webb. In this video featuring Daniel Dae Kim of TV's "Lost," I cross fade to a famous photo of Jim Webb, his wife Hong-Le Webb, and Barack Obama taken during Webb's Senate campaign.

  • FIRED UP For Barack Obama Speech in VIrginia Today

    Friday, Jun 6, 2008 3:48AM / Video

Annabel and I are honored to be able to attend at Barack Obama's historic speech today in Manassas, Virginia -- his first of the General Election campaign.

(Sorry we have not been posting lately. The immigration insanity in Prince William County has reached a point where we had to lie low for a while. Even giving our opinion could upset a delicate balance right now. We will be able to explain why this is in coming weeks. Stay tuned!)

Of course we are thrilled that the Democratic Primary is finally over and Barack Obama is the nominee. Annabel is on her way here from Maryland. She is picking up two friends at the Vienna Metro station and we are going to see Obama speak right here in Prince William County, Virginia!!!!
I'll be seeing him speak for the 4th time -- 3rd time for Annabel.

Annabel and Kelly Hu were lucky enough to get a VIP seat on the stage in Las Vegas in January. We got tremendous footage in Maryland in February. And, although we have not posted it yet (lazy me) we got stupendous footage with Andres Useche (Si Se Puede Cambiar video) in Houston, TX in March.

Annabel and I have both been invited to to sit on stage during Obama's speech. I've decided I don't want to look through the lens of a camera like I usually do. So our new 9500 Liberty recruit Luke Hillman will be shooting from the press risers. If we get some good footage, I'll post it to the United For Obama channel.

There are great fears about the traffic situation tonight. We'll keep you posted on how that goes. We plan to get there early and film some interviews while we wait.

The finest film of my career, by the way, now has more than 320,000 hits on our channel alone:
