  • Now I Know Why My Mom Has Plants In The House

    Tuesday, Sep 8, 2009 7:25AM / Members only

Keeping plants offers us the chance to give without any promise of reciprocation, gratitude, or reward. It's true that they ask for little - just some water and sunlight - but in a material sense they give even less in return. Nonetheless, houseplants enjoy a popularity that seems out of proportion to any decorative function they might perform. Perhaps we keep them because they fill a very human need: the need to be needed.

A potted plant you've been trying to keep on your balcony falls over the ledge it was sitting on. You run outside to survey the damage. What do you see?

    1. The plant landed on the ground upright and intact

    2. The pot broke, but the plant seems to have survived the fall

    3. The pot and plant are both smashed beyond recovery

    4. For some strange reason, there is no sign of either plant or pot

    Key to Look Out Below

The sheltered life of a potted plant corresponds to a hidden, guarded side of your character and the ways you try to keep the world from penetrating your social mask.

    1. The plant landed on the ground upright and intact

You appear to be strong and confident and are always eager to demonstrate your coolness under fire. But beneath that tough facade is a person more concerned with keeping up an image than actually living it.

    2. The pot broke, but the plants seems to have survived the fall

You seem calm and unflappable to others, but the reality is you just hate to show your emotions. Those pent-up feelings within you just keep growing and growing, and no pot can hold them in forever.

    3. The pot and plant are both smashed beyond recovery

You seem to be soft-spoken and self-effacing, but that "natural listener" is crying out for a chance to shine center stage. You are only waiting for an opportunity to break out of the self-imposed mold that confines you.

    4. For some strange reason, there is no sign of either plant or pot

You excel at generating excitement and making others laugh and people see you as the life of the party (even when there's no party in town). But that glib exterior hides a seriousness and even a shy side that you choose not to show the rest of the world.

  • August 18, 2009 - Getting Put Asleep for the first time...

Okay first off, Happy birthday Hildy.  Finally 18!! :]
    -----------
So today at around 10AM I went to the dentist who specializes in removing wisdom teeth.  I've got to admit, I was quite nervous because it's always scary when they tell you that they are going to take out your teeth with sharp objects.  The first thing I had to do was to fill out some information and sign responsibility forms and then watch a stupid 10-minute movie on the possible risks of getting wisdom teeth pulled out.  AND THEN IT WAS TIME FOR ACTION.  I lied down on this bed with a pretty soft pillow, then Dr. Yen (why are my doctors always Chinese? lol)

Basically he told me to squeeze some stress ball (heart-shaped, lol) so that they could see my veins.  He inserted a needle into my arm to draw blood out.  Not sure why, I didn't feel like asking anyways.  So that was my first time drawing out blood.  Didn't even hurt that much at least! =P.  I think that they were injecting a fluid into my system that would help make me drowsy, as well as put a gas mask on me to make the effects stronger.  The last things I remember were being amused at how I was still awake from inhaling the gas, and then slowly, very slowly...my vision became shaky as if i fell asleep watching a movie.  And then lights out.

And then I woke up, WHO knows when? a while later, I'm so disoriented and dizzy, I had the assistant help walk me to my car. XD.  What a trip. Apparently they put gauze in my mouth [both sides], and then I fell asleep on my couch for about 7 hours more or less.  I woke up at about 8PM.  It rocks because I can eat pudding and apposauce and mashed potatoes but no steak or meat or yum food. FML.

    ANYWHO...
Thank you for your wonderful artwork, Minji >:C RAWR x100000

    ------------------------------
Yesterday, Monday, August 17 - TRIP TO DE ANZA ---> SANTA CRUZ!!!

So yesterday, me, my brother, Victor, Sally, and RouRou (? Sally's stepsis) went to De Anza so that me and Ken could get our IGETC forms signed :) Sooo excited, I'll be like a 1st-year sophomore ;D
Afterwards we went straight to Santa Cruz to see Ken's house/apartment.  His "room" is not a room, it's a CUBICLE! SO SMALL! His "room" is actually near the front door, so he will have no privacy almost.  It won't be soundproof! We tried moving his cubicle around and stuff, and afterwards we went to go eat Thai food. MMMM PAD THAI!!!

Then we went to the movies and saw District 9.  Good movie! Sucks to be the main character!!! =D

Went there today for teeth cleaning from my dentist of 10+ years. Dr. Ho's assistant is kind of cute ...but much older. He convinced me to be a pharmacist/optometrist.  Pharmacist = 150K-200K/yr?! Dang ;) And...just imagine calling me "Dr. Eng". Likin the sound of that...

After leaving, went to Quickly's in Chinatown.  Ordered 茶 香奶綠, a.k.a. Jasmine green tea, with pearls, and 炸豆腐 a.k.a. fried tofu, in Cantonese. Yummy! Parents bought groceries and dim sum stuff, and then we ate at this pretty nice Thai restaurant where everything on the menu cost under 10 bucks - about 8 dollars a dish.  The bill was 26.70 for 3 people! And then we left for home.

It must be my sheer bad luck or something, but I noticed that it is always me that gets stopped by authorities or when things go wrong.  I got stopped by the airport staff at least twice.  There was a problem with my information when the DMV clerk checked it (at least the problem was solved pretty fast though).  While leaving Lowes with the stuff we bought at the self-check, the sensor beeps. It's always me :(  Did I mention that I always end up with the garlic that my mom puts in the food she cooks? Haha

I found out that at 18 with a permit, you can drive with a 21year old, not 25!  Which is perfect, because everyone in my family is over 21...
I've got to remember to have my permit with me though or else I still can't drive! :(

Getting pretty hooked on Khalil's music at the moment.  I'm even singing to his songs, which I think sound really nice (his songs, not so much my voice).  If you listen/see the lyrics, it's really poetic and has a lot of meaning.  I'm hoping to improve my voice by practicing in my apartment at college (:

Hope to get my license soon.

Dorms are cesspools. haha. It'd be hard to hit the books in that kind of environment, I think. I've personally never been in one but that's the impression I get. All you mainly have to hassle with is feeding yourself. did you pick a major yet?

UCD is a very good school. College is very different. You're actually gonna have to be more responsible. Do you plan on dorming there? Got a lot of friends also attending D?

You play on your school's team? That's cool. Doesn't that make you stay at school a little longer during the days than during the off-season? hehe. I think some public schools' sports programs might be in jeopardy due to the recession and budget. =( You won't have to worry about that. Have you heard back from any unis?

Xmas is pretty much for everyone else but me. =\ That's ok. It's totally commercial. I don't believe or revel in the gift-giving tradition.

Wow, only a half more year of this high school bizness and you're on your own. Lots of people let loose when they get into college. Hope you'll keep your priorities straight when you reach there. Good luck w/ the apps.
