I have never had a blog before, even though I love to write- simply because I didn't feel I have anything interesting to say. But as this is an 'arty blog' it gives me an opportunity to share my creative side with the world, having my words and images side-by-side.
As I am building up to a display of my work in London next week I have been reflecting recently on where my work comes from and why it takes its form- perhaps this is a good way to introduce myself in my first blog.
Most people begin working in design with a concept and drawings. I began with technique. My technique is my foundation, followed by experiments with materials. From material comes manipulation to make something, anything, 3-dimensional and see what happens.
From this process my flowers and ripples appeared without me really knowing what they were going to be.
As I grew up in the country and beside the sea, I wonder if the work I have achieved might reflect or be a memory from my childhood.
How people feel when viewing my work, and what makes them want to own it is something I am still learning about. My hope is that my audience want to touch it and then experience wearing, and to let their imagination tell them what it is rather than a title to offer explanation. It appears to be fragile but to touch it reveals its strong, robust, hard-wearing properties.
Details and images of fresh work I have produced for London will be here shortly, I am currently finishing a large neckpiece and gradually finishing some smaller pieces. I also have a selection of rings to display in various colours.
