    Regret

I have a revelation today. I realized that "regret" is such  a wasteful, useless feeling - a total self indulgent energy. So you  want to do something...but you did not take action so you miss the "opportunity" . Big deal. What's the point of beating yourself up years after the fact? Life goes on! Stop being a prisoner of that lost moment because you fail to take action. Move on...
For some reason, beyond my comprehension, the popular songs that I grew up with and the popular sentiment around that time in HK were all about "Regret" . Now that I have some healthy distance from that time, I can see how much "Regret" is an oveblown, over glorified wasteful nothing which prevent fresh, new, magical moments entering your life because you are so imprisoned by the past. Stop... life is about enjoying every second of every moment of one's life so we can be open to fresh and new experience - that is  true living!

I vote for leaving regret behind because it is a great excuse for people who have no courage to allow any mistakes in their lives. But you know what, mistakes happen whether you like it or not... so if it does, cop to the fact that there is  imperfection in life and imperfection in you. It's a part of life - move on. Don't dwell and get stuck because you have to allow yourself a second chance. You know from this experience that you wlll be able to do better next time. Let's leave that wasteful useless self beating "Regret" behind and turn that into a celebration of "change" . We have to be our own best friend because we can be whatever we want to be!

  • sense of touch

I was so happy to receive all the input about my blog on "EMAIL".
That trigger me to write about something else...the "sense of touch". I remember when I was growing up, most of my toys were something that I could hold, or touch: like a doll, or some plastic kitchen utensils or a doctor's set...things that I need to use my hand to pick up and hold., things that I can touch. Now adays, popular toys for children are mostly video games on a play station. To me, that's like living life through some secondary experience - You see it, you participate by pressing buttons on a remote control. I wonder how that will affect the "participants" who are the young people of this generation. They are  so engrossed with video games... will their sense of humanity and compassion be like "my generation"? When they grow up and become parents, will they be more logical and removed or will they still be able to have empathy for others or is that considered to be "silly emotion"?  I probably will have no idea as I am not in their skin. Just very very curious, and concerned...
I look at the current trend of films that are big box office hit -  most of the popular and well received ones are catered for the "younger generation" who love exaggerated sensationalism, explosions, shoot-them-ups, mass murders and blood and gore.. Perhaps it's "generation gap", perhaps I am too old fashioned... but I sure hope technology has not dumb down our senses so much that we can't relate to each other any more. That's a scary thought and will be a great loss!

  • Email

I cannot get over how our lives have changed by email. Everyday, I get on my computer and can get in touch with all of my friends from all over the world, within seconds. it does not matter whether we have major time difference, I just get on my computer and type up a short hello. When I get up the next day, I will sure get a response from my friends. It's hard to remember those days when we have no cell phone, black berry, fax or answering machine, computers...Somehow, people still are able to get in touch... by letters! I don't remember the last time I wrote a letter. I used to love to write letters, now I only send cards. I have forgotten how to write a good letter.  Most of the time, when I go to my mail box, the majority of my mail are paper ads and junk mail, and oh, bills... burried in between pages of junk mail. Have to say I much rather sit infront of my computer than go to my mail box because  9 X out of 10, it's filled with wasteful, junk mail!
But email is different! Great for ecology since we are not wasting paper so we don't have to cut down that many trees...
A big "Thank you" to the Email Inventor... you are the best!

  • June 21/3 union 1 voice

    Saturday, Jun 23, 2007 3:41AM / Standard Entry

Yesterday was the first ever joint effort between WGA, DGA and AFTRA creating a scene reading night (partially staged) and spotlight on AP talents from all 3 unions. The room was packed, each scene flow from one to the next effortlessly. The audience was hanging onto every moment of each scene.
I had fun both being in the audience, watching, and  being infront of the audience, taking part as an actress. Met a lot of female writer/directors as well.
It was a wonderful first. May there be many more to come.

  • Good Life/ 3 Unions 1 voice/ Streetball in NY

    Good Life
When I was in my late teens, if you were to ask me what is a “good life”, I would probably say, “to have a big house, a big car, and lots of money so I can buy lots of expensive things…”
Now if you ask me what I think is a “good life”, a Chinese proverb resonates in my head: “If you are in the company of good friends, toasting a thousand times is still not enough…”

Well thanks to the super team of Alive Not Dead, I now have many new and wonderful friends on my site. Here’s a virtual toast to all of you from my virtual home. I look forward to our ongoing conversations.

    Three unions with one voice
On the evening of June 21, the Asian Pacific caucus from all three unions
Writers Guild of America (WGA), Directors Guild of America (DGA) as well as the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists (AFTRA) will join forces for the first time to present a scene reading night to showcase Asian-Pacific talent from all three unions. I will participate in one of the nine selected scenes as an actor.

Shooting the “World Streetball Championship” in July
For one week in mid-July I will fly to New York to assist in a documentary shoot of the “FREESTYLE CHALLENGE FINAL”  of  Streetball (street basketball). There will be 5 teams from countries all over the world competing. I will be working closely with camera crews from both NY and China, not to mention interviewing some “Streetball” stars from NY. This should be fun!
