  • Yes, the rumors are true...

    Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 2:03PM / Members only

Hello El Destroyo Fans... long time no posting.

We are writing to say “Yes, the rumors are true..”

El D guitar man Billy Dean Cochran has departed Hong Kong leaving Da Countess and Baba to wander the streets aimlessly in search of rock n roll that might fill the massive void left behind since the wizard returned to Oz.

We remain hopeful that the sharp dressed man will return and the mighty El Destroyo will rise once again.  In the mean time we have been working to get some songs mixed that we recorded just before we parted ways.  Two of those songs will appear on a special limited edition LP that will be released later this year to commemorate The Roots Rumble 2009.  The Astrophonix, Go Jimmy Go and Transnoodle will also have 2 songs each on the LP.  We will keep you posted on that for sure.

Meanwhile to appease your EL D cravings we’ve posted up a couple of other tunes from that session up to our MySpace page which were mixed ala vintage surf style by Mark Rubel of Pogo Studios in Champaign, Illinois USA and we’ve posted up some new video clips from our last couple of shows as well.

  • Bush Fire Bash

    Sunday, Apr 26, 2009 3:31PM / Members only

Last night we played at the Bush Fire Bash fundraiser at Grappa's, opened up for the Pete Moore's Big Band.  We had only a 20 minute slot, but I think we did our best to slam it out within the constraints that was presented to us.

The Pete Moore's band consists of all the big name "cats" of HK, Eugene Pao, Jun Kung, Pete Scherr, Jeff Huntly, etc etc, all the big boys.  Made me a bit nervous just the thought of it, but they were all very friendly and supportive.

I can't say I was very into the kind of music that they were doing, but they are all great players!  Just watching them play was a pleasure.  Each note, each phrasing was carried out with such ease and effortlessness.  So there IS a difference between Pros, and amateurs like us!  :P  Well, I guess I could only speak for myself and not the rest of the band at that... ha!

And you know what else I was impressed?  I don't know how did they all fit on that stage!  Even with just the 3 of us, we were having trouble moving around and trying to do our "thang" with all the gear on stage; and they had bass, drums, percussionist, keyboards, guitar, and 3 horns!  Plus Pete himself!  That's 9 people!!!  Amazing!

The crowd was subdued during our set, but we received quite a few positive and supportive comments afterwards, which is always nice.  Especially since it's not for the money, it's nice to know that we've made a connection with some people.  Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to show.  I'll post some up later if we get any from the people who attended the show.

    Until next show... Ta!

So we're kinda new around this blog and still trying to figure out how to make it work.  Getting around on this thing take a bit getting used to and clicking on different links that leads to the same place.  But no fear, we'll figure it out.

Meanwhile, here are a few pictures that were taken at our recent show Ska vs Rockabilly at Grappa's.
