• 东京旅游：新宿的夜间街景 / Tokyo Tour: Neons in Shinjuku

  Tokyo has many vibrant scenes especially in the shinjuku area. These images are mostly of shinjuku. I was pretty much attracted by the neon signs so I focused on capturing the colours of the signs, which explained why all the images are pretty dark and only showing the signs.

  Note: Most of my photos are taken on full manual mode. I am using a semi auto with manual over-ride camera, the Nikon P6000 is a decent little helper for this purpose. The auto-meter helped me with preliminary light exposure reading, from there I will step down the value for the shutter and the aperture a little because what the automatic reading gives you is on clarity of images but it doesn't help you to set the mood of the photos.

  This photo collection trace my path to the Ghibili Museum. I was in such a hurry I only spent two hours there. This give me a good reason to visit again. Its quite difficult to get a ticket so must book earlier, however I was very lucky to have gotten my tickets two days before going to the museum at the Lawson. But the process is a little stuff for non-Japanese as the machine speaks only in Japanese.

  If you love Musical Instruments, especially the guitars, this is a stretch you really should not miss when you visit Japan.  This is the musical instrument street, its within walking distant from the antique book street. So you can make that a day tour.

  喜欢音乐和乐器的朋友，去东京时不要忘了到乐器街走走。它就在古书街的隔邻。而且这里有好多餐馆，寿司店等。值得一游。

  Every country I go I would love to go to browse the antique book store. I started the collection of antique books when I was studying in London. I have since collected a few of those rare theatre books, especially those for Technical Theatre, Scripts and the Arts. I love antique books. There seem to be a mystical aura to these books, who were there previous owner? Some of the books have scripts on them by their owner, owning an antique book is like looking into a part of history.

  As for Manga, I'm not a serious fan for manga though I love the art of creating the manga and animation.

  There are a big stretch of antique book stores in Tokyo, there are thousands of book stores there, new as well as old book stores.

  去东京，一定要到原宿走走。这好像已经是必然的现象。朋友告诉我“星期天要到原宿看看那些化了浓妆，穿着不同人物服饰的人在闲逛。”

  This is a must visit to Tokyo, my friends said to me "Go to Harajuku on Sunday, go and look at all the cosplayer in action" Well, I went. I must say it was not something that is shocking or would surprise me too much having seen people dress up as different characters most of my working life.

  What I was more interested in was the whole psychology in doing that. So I observed these young people. Well they are very happy to obliged when tourist approached them. Some of them did nothing but just stood around as if waiting for people to invite them for a shoot. Those heavily dressed hung around outside the Meiji Shrine area, many less heavily dressed would go shopping in the Harajuku shopping stretch.

  The cosplayers were a colourful bunch, its refreshing to watch how people put all their daily worries and burden down, let loose, dress themselves up and just hung loose without any real taxing objectives or mission.

  I did not get many shots of the characters. Just some.

  这条街，真是什么都有。这不是在六本目，新宿或原宿而是在“阿左谷”市区内的街市。

  This isn't in the shopping district Raponggi, Shinjuku or Harajuku, its a long stretch of street in one of that estate area. There are many different stores in this stretch of streets. From dinning, clothing to marketing for groceries, you can do them all around this stretch of side streets. It took me almost four hours to complete the whole area, but there were so much to see and explore here, the supermarkets were very colorful, the display were very neat and organised. It was a really nice exploration.

  很喜欢看人。。。地铁里有好多人。我不是想侵犯人权，只是喜欢观察不同的表情。

  I love looking at People. I saw many interesting characters in the Tokyo Metro. So I took some of them.

  Do not be mistaken, I'm not obsess with Japanese Food, although the Japanese food culture is a interesting subject. I was captured by the Japanese calligraphy and the color of their signs and the energy in most of the banners. Look at them and you would agree.

  There are many such baggage deposit cabinets for daily rental in tokyo, they come in different dimensions for the different baggages, the baggage deposit service make it very convenient for travellers to deposit some heavy belongings and go away for short trips outside of Tokyo or simply for commuter to continue their shoppings without the heavy burden.

  The Japanese has a way of taking the trouble to make life easier for the communters and tourist, but ironically some of their gestures are so profound they cause more confusion and inconvenience. However the cabinet rental idea is great for someone like me who are not unable to carry lots of heavy loads.

  图中所见,是租借保险柜,租金收费为每日400日元至800日元,以柜子的大小而定,你可把旅行包或任何笨重的物件暂时存放在里面.这是很好的设施,方便人们轻松逛街购物,也方便要到别处旅行的游客们. 不知道其它国家是否有这类的设施?

  Upon arrival In Tokyo, when I stepped out of the N'EX train, the very interesting subject that caught my attention was the vending machines. The Japanese are obsess with vending machines, every few meters you will find vending machines of some sort. There are vending machine for a wide variety of products. This is an interesting culture. I have just recorded some of them, these really are only a small portion of the vending machines you can find in Tokyo, I believe there are more interesting stuff I have missed. Next trip perhaps.

  My friends attended the Tokyo Graphic Passport Symposium and these were taken at the gathering that was organised by the committee for the event. It is held at a place call lightbox, drink session was at the rooftop and the casual meeting and discussion was held in the room shown. The exact symposium was held elsewhere. Most of the top Graphic Artists in Asia and over the world came to this symposium to network and exchange latest technology and views on this subject.

  I have been taking many pictures of the night scenes at the Bay and Clark Quay, the repeated actions were my attempts to perfect the shots and also to get my hand on different time setting and apperture setting to see the different resulting effects. I love to view from multiple perspective and give each angle and dimension a shot. Taking pictures calms my soul.   Rebecca and I went to the Spelling Bee Musical at the Victorial Theatre, after that we took a stroll toward Boat Quay, along the way, I took some pics of the Quay side, then we proceed to have a good nice bowl of "Dried Mee Suah", the best. Along the way I met Yu Beng who was going to the Jazz Bar. On my way home, I went to take a shot of Clark Quay. Here are the photos collection taken tonight.

• Demolished 拆除的旧屋

  那天，陪着朋友去办点事，我们驾车经过了几所被拆除了的旧房屋，友人知道我喜欢摄影，就停下来好让我上前去把景观拍下。

  破旧的旧房屋，看了有一点惆怅。人去楼空，旧日不复返。

  Brought a friend out with me for some errand. We drove past these old houses that was knocked down. My friend pulled over to the side of the road and I took photos of the ruin and the remains.

  A sight that is rather depressing, reminder of what's gone and will never return.
