Born in HK, raised in Melbourne from age of 8, moved to Sydney at the age of 23. I have worked in the interactive media industry as a producer and designer, winning several awards and recognition in Australia and abroad.
When I relocated to Sydney early 2000, I started to work full time in photography, started off in advertising, then I branched out to shooting people, actors and fashion. I like to be skilled at different things.. next I will get onto interaction design, architectural facade.. I just love the beauty of structures). I get my inspirations from various art form such as moving arts, video performances and reading about world issues.
When I am shooting a portrait, I draw upon my years of experience from working with actors as a filmmaker and collaborating with choreographers and other artists on stage. It is through workshops and communication (online or in person) that I get to know them on a personal level. I like emotions, characters and sparks / dynamics on the final print. It is probably easy to ask the model to pose and you click the shutter, but I'm not interested in that aspect of photography. I want the viewers to interpret / critique what is going on in the shot.. Above all, i like storytelling.
I am hoping to gain some international exposure on here, so maybe next time I visit HK (as well as Europe in time). I welcome the opportunities to work / meet with some of the talents there. Should be exciting!!
