I like Canon cameras.  Do you have a specific price range in mind?  Personally, I love my Canon EOS digital SLR 20D, but the D series are expensive.

Hi Doc,
I thought you would have had a lot more help to make your decision about a new digital camera.  The two main things to know is the amount of memory that comes with the camera and the amount of Mega pixels.  The more of each the more expensive the camera. The optics can play a part but usually only matter in the high end professional models,  So it all just depends what kind of photographer you are and what kind of pictures you usually take,  Memory is not so critical because with most digital cameras you can buy more memory. Depending on the type of photography you do this will determine the amount of pictures your camera will hold before you have to down load or delete them.  The amount of mega pixels will determine the maximum resolution and detail in your photos, and the speed at which you can capture an image. this is important when taking pictures of a subject in motion, such as sport photography or possibly nature photography. This also plays apart in low light photography.  With the current digital cameras you find in the stores you should do ok unless you plan on do special photography of some kind,   I have a HP Photosmart digital camera and it works just fine for my basic uses. I would say that having a large viewing screen is good, It makes it more convenient to review pictures and read the menu screens. After all that I would just tell you buy a dependable brand with the most mega pixels your budget will allow and you should be very happy. hope I didn't bore you with all this.   Take care.  I think I should be in Chengdu sometime in March, no exact date yet.

I have a Canon Powershot. Easy to use, not overpriced, sufficient Zoom. I stayed away from the cameras that require proprietary memory cards.
