  • Sigh of relief...

I just finished the first pass on my final draft of Rooks (working title) and I’m happy to announce that the stressing and nail biting is over. The final draft was well received and the comments were positive. I surprised a few people including D.Y. Sao, who plays the lead in this project and I can’t wait to lock the scrīpt. I still have some polishing to do but that’s minor adjustments, I’ve leaped over the first of many hurdles and I’m excited. To my fellow Writer/Directors out there I commend you on tackling the unbearable task. I had no clue it was this taxing to wear both hats. Favorite quote: "It’s time for tradition to step aside and let unconventional drive!" Sato Ishii from Rooks!

  • Late night Cravings...

    Sunday, Apr 20, 2008 12:17PM / Members only

The fam bam is out performing (Hula) at a show and I’m home alone retooling my budget for my latest project (Rooks) starring D.Y. Sao. I’ve already had a nice healthy dinner and for some strange reason, I’m craving the special number 2, spicy ramen noodles from Orochon (LA). Ok, to put things in perspective, the project (Rooks) I’m working on takes place in the Dotomburi District of Osaka, Japan. I’ve been doing months of research on the lifestyle and culture. I’m listening to several J-Pop, and Japanese hip hop artist and I’ve surround myself with some interesting reading material about the new era of the Yakuza. Is my craving for the spicy noodles because of my research or the simple fact that I’m hungry? I must admit, I have eaten at Orochon (LA) on several occasions and love the spicy noodles. Do I have this craving because I’ve immersed myself into the culture? Either way, I can’t wait to eat those spicy noodles again.

  • Mind over matter?

I was up till 6am cranking out my budget sheet for my new project called “Rooks” (working title) when the weirdest thing happened to me. I fell asleep at my computer for a split second and when I opened my eyes I was typing a story about another upcoming project? I rubbed my eyes and looked at the Excel spreadsheet and laughed, I realized that I was dreaming about that story and was typing it into my spreadsheet. The grammar was all warped but I could still make out the story. Was I sleep-writing? I wonder if that’s even possible. Maybe I was halfway sleep and thought that I was writing that story? A thing like this makes me wonder about the untapped potential of the mind.

  • Random Ninjas @ the "ROXY"

    Wednesday, Apr 9, 2008 2:12PM / Members only

Recently, DY and I were invited to watch a local band called “Random Ninjas” play at the ROXY in Hollywood. I was looking for unsigned indie bands to showcase on our upcoming movie soundtrack, and came across this band on the web www.randomninjas.com I later found out that one of the band members (Funk Masta Ninja) is an old Kung Fu brother of DY… small world. Random Ninjas is an Asian-American band that plays heavy rock fusion music with a mix of traditional instruments and unique cultural instruments. The songs are a combination of diverse languages and humor with a playful undertone. I found myself wanting to jump into the pit and crash bodies with crazy fans. After the amazing and entertaining show the band was kind enough to hang out with DY and myself, cracking jokes about interesting individuals that happened up and down the strip. We ended the night with a photo session (if you want to call it that) that spawns into a massive fan crazy free for all photo op! I really enjoyed the music and the company. I look forward to seeing the Random Ninjas in the near future.

I am working on a couple of film projects now, one is at script approval stage (fingers crossed) , the other I am trying to find a home for... But my dream project is "The Battle of Hong Kong" a story of when Kowloon City and Hong Kong City the two provinces of HK go to war... btw, upload some of your previous work if you can, would love to see them...
