  • The Big 8.9 Earthquake of Japan + Tsunami

    Friday, Mar 11, 2011 7:07PM / News

Wow. I think that's the best way to start of my message. Greetings family, friends, and fans. Usually everyone on my fanpage knows that I like to send out my fun monthly newsletters once a month to talk about parties, and whatever fun stuff seems to be happening at the moment in my life and in Tokyo or Japan in general.

Well this is one of those special messages, due to special circumstances. It's on all major global headline news networks the great quake + tsunami that hit Japan today, and just wow! I turn on the news and it looks surreal. That feeling I got when I woke up Tuesday morning and seen the news at 9AM on 9/11. I got that feeling now. I feel sad for the people around me. I got them in my prayers.

    Everybody is worried about ev
erybody. My mother back home in the US was worried sick about me. She stayed online until 3AM waiting to hear from me by chat and we talked until 3:50AM (Chicago time). I know that she is tired but she can sleep comfortably now knowing that I am ok. And my brother who never uses Facebook and never talks to me on here, he messaged me to ask am I OK. I'm sorry about the situation for everyone else but to know people still care about me makes me feel fucken good.

The water washed away everything in the city of Sendai just like soap and a hot bath washing off dirt. Entire buildings, cars, buses, floating miles away. If you seen the news and thought about me today I thank you, really. I'm safe, please think about everyone else in need now. If you believe in God as I do (or whoever your God may be), I ask you to send your prayers out to him to answer. After 8 years in Japan and experiencing about 50 quakes or so total in my experiences here, today was the worse. And after it hit I was hit by 3 aftershocks within the next hour. When that first one hit I was worried, because it really felt different from before. But I was taken care of though by my angels. I hope that everyone else I know here is safe.

Here are some postings from a friend of a friend, if anyone can find them helpful.

"Other places where you can stay the night for free in Tokyo: 【無料開放まとめ】 お茶ノ水→【明大リバティタワー】 新宿→【高島屋タイムズスクエア】 池袋→【立教大学11、14号館】 浜松駅→【浜松市中区田町万年橋パークビル7Fマチノバ
    】 品川→【品川プリンスホテル】

If you're in Shinjuku/Shibuya area and can't make it home tonight, you can stay at Bunka Fashion School. 【RT

Also, in Tokyo, you can go to nearby ビックカメラ(Bic Camera) to charge your cell phone battery! It's free now.

SUNTORY vending machines are providing free drinks. If you see a small emergency window on the right side of the machine, peel off the sticker and pull the red lever. You can get a drink. It's for emergency purpose!"

PS. To anyone affected, stay tough. You got a world of support on your shoulders now. We got your back. I'm American, but let it be known Japan is for sure my home away from home. Thanks for taking care of me, hope I get some opportunities soon to do the same for you.

Marc with a pen & pad in hand? Digits? I think that equates to "bi-winning."

"VivaTokyo" put on a great Valentine's Day party on February 13th at Polygon in Omotesando, Tokyo.  The "San Valentín Party♡" was off the hook; the organizers were all cool dudes (hey that includes me too) and the girls were off the hook fine.  I made sure I left with a few numbers (like 5), emails, and new friends.  The party was stupid crazy fun for me and if you missed it I feel sorry for you.

The good news is VivaTokyo is doing it all over again this month!  In celebration of hanami and the beginning of spring, VivaTokyo has organized a new "Sakura Fiesta" party taking place in Roppongi at the end of the month.  Here are the details for that.  Make sure to register from the site.

    BLACK HISTORY MONTH TOKYO 2011

Last month in February Tokyo's black community put on some of the hottest live music shows, club events, fashion shows, workshops, etc. all part of the festivities of promoting BHM abroad.  I can't remember even myself, maybe there were seven events?  Eight?  Well I just know we had a lot going on and if you attended any of them you were definitely in for a treat.  Everybody who's anybody was there and if you weren't, I feel sorry for ya man.

Anyways I'm not gonna talk your head off.  Just seen the thank you's roll through one last time earlier today and I think it would be great if I post them now.  If I tried to say this myself I know I would leave somebody out by accident.  This list of thank you's is actually courtesy of Monique Dehaney, head of M&U Entertainment who was the main organizer overseeing all events and the whole production.  So from me, a thank you to Monique.  Here's that shout out list now

The Pink Cow, Traci Consoli, Fifty Seven Lounge, Petra Adrienne, Michelle Grosvenor, Nadya Dee, Solar Midnite, Roxana Nazarova, LaTonya Whitaker, David Whitaker, Showtime Japan, Marcus Bird, Wayne Neil, Alvetta Smith, Daisha Hunter, Henry Moreland Seals, (MAD) Marc Antomattei Designs, DJ E Smoove, Monique Sloley, Schanita Simmons-Ramos, Dean Jackson, and Dwayne Bullock.

    Respect!

    LASTLY

For Black History Month and the BHM Tokyo 2011 Kick-Off Party I compiled a listing of 25 songs I felt would define BHM around the world this year.  Comprised of classic black themed songs and contemporary music.  During the kick-off event I only had enough time allotted to make it halfway through my DJ set, so no one got to hear the full list in its entirety.  I present it to you now i the order of play, giving you the full spectrum of what I personally had going on in my mind that I wanted to share with all of you.  This is the list!

    1) Mos Def – Fear Not Of Man

    2) The Winans – Let My People Go

    3) Miles Davis - Tutu

    4) Herbie Hancock – I Have A Dream

    5) Brand New Heavies – Brother Sister

    6) R. Kelly – I Believe I Can Fly

    7) D’Angelo – Higher

  • Happy Birthday To Me!

    Tuesday, Jan 4, 2011 10:50AM / Standard Entry

Happy Birthday to me!  Today I turn 28, still enjoying the twenties and haven't quite grown out of my partying era yet.  In addition to wishing myself a happy birthday, because I forgot to do this three days ago, I would like to wish everyone at AND a Happy New Year!  It's a new time and a second chance to do all the things you wanted to do or should've done last year.  I wish all you guys luck on your endeavors.

Now time to pop a bottle of champagne.  Enjoy my birthday selection everyone.

  • It’s been a very long time since my last visit to AND.

    Saturday, Dec 18, 2010 2:19AM / Standard Entry

All I can say is wow, I can’t really remember the last time I was on AND.  I’ve been so busy in recent months with work, DJing, graphic design, and mostly researching and writing a book about jazz musician Miles Davis, that I haven’t had enough time to really relax or stop and smell the roses.

So the date now is Saturday, December 18 and the time is about 3:16 AM in the morning.  Don’t ask me what am I doing up so late, I don’t even know myself.  But at about 2:30 AM I was on Facebook and bumped into another fellow friend in Tokyo name Mio Shiraishi who is also a user of AND and a super big AND fanatic.  We talked for a bit about this website and about this upcoming Saturday night.  Mio seems to be a popular dancer/pole dancer here in Japan, tomorrow she will have a dance performance at a popular club in Aoyama, Tokyo called “Velours”.  I really wish I could attend to see her dance show but unfortunately at the same time I have to attend a Christmas dinner party in the nearby city of Shinjuku.

It would be very nice if after her show and after my dinner party if we could catch up, talk a little bit, and maybe head out to a good after-hours party for a little while.  Things may not turnout that way but it sure would be nice if they did.  Mio is a very attractive young lady, she has a really great respectable job, and what appears to be a very positive and fun personality so naturally I hope I can meet with her.

Well that’s it from me.  It’s from speaking with her that I thought of all you guys here at AND and I decided to drop by.  I will try to make a habit of posting a little more often from now on.  Later people, and good night Hong Kong and Tokyo!

  • ☆Defected - Tensnake In The House☆

    Thursday, Sep 23, 2010 9:07PM / Standard Entry

●●●●●●Tensnake In The House (Out Sept. 27th)●●●●●●

Forthcoming on the 27th Sept. The past few months have been pretty ridiculous in the career ascent of Tensnake, currently feted as the hottest property in dance music. You know when sometimes an artist comes along and you just feel you’re in for the time of your life? That’s what happens when you hear a truly great Tensnake record. Everyone from Pete Tong and Annie Mac and the entire Radio 1 daytime crew are supporting ‘Coma Cat’. In fact, Coma Cat is already on the Radio 1 playlist a full five weeks out from release, which illustrates the point for a breakthrough artist – he is just HOT
