  • My Bloody Valentine

    Wednesday, Apr 1, 2009 2:06AM / Standard Entry

Digging around for inspiration today and stumbled across this classic. Haven't heard this tune since ... uh ... god ...  since 20 years ago?!

For lovers of immaculately crafted noise, enjoy. WARNING - absolutely not for everyone. Which is half the attraction of My Bloody Valentine.

p.s: Like all my other glowing music prophecies proven true in the last decade, a revival of this sound in the crossover is quite imminent. Trust. Me. I'll even take bets. :)

  • an experiment ... join me

    Tuesday, Mar 31, 2009 6:22PM / Standard Entry

Wanted to make the process behind my current album project as public as possible.

Video is too ego indulgent ... posting up MP3 clips gives too much away. So - thanks to a long forgotten function on my mobile - I am able & going to upload photos directly from my phone to Blogger every few hours until this third album gets finished.

Things that catch my eye, sources of ideas for songs, research I'm working on, shots of the studio & collaborators as they swing through. Or shots of where I slope-off when lacking any motivation at all.

Sometimes there will be a title or description. Often not.

Sometimes I will take a day-off. Often not!

Over the course of the next year there will be a LOT of repetition. Get used to it!

So without further ado - click here.

In order to avoid cluttering up my Alive Not Dead page too much, I'll only post up reminders here every month or so. If you really want to stay on top either subscribe to the RSS feed at the Blogger link above, or join my Twitter page ... Links to pictures are mirrored automatically. God I love automation. I wouldn't be doing this otherwise.

No apologies for the shit camera quality either! I was going to go full grain black & white 2 Megapixel glory ... but as most of my work is really late at night, well, you get the idea.

Roland SH-5 finally arrived, safe and mint from Japan, smelling like… well, smelling like an old dusty garage. This thing is the same age as me (1976) although it has faired time better. I added some high-res (big!) front panel photos of the various synth sections, to my Flickr page. Before buying this I had a hell of time finding info & decent photos online.

(for syndicated readers missing page links, note that there are scanned synth manuals for all my vintage gear hosted on the ‘data’ page of www.disuye.com)

  • Fallout 3 ... oops

    Wednesday, Mar 25, 2009 6:14PM / Standard Entry

Just downloaded the second add-on pack for Fallout 3 (one of my favourite games right now): The Pitt. Oops...

Someone let the interns send the files to Microsoft. Turns out a large number of the texture files were missing from the download so the entire playing field is littered with, well, big red diamonds & white exclamation marks. This isn't really a bug, just some kind of file corruption / omission.

Didn't stop me from completing the quest though. Looking forward to playing through again but with the right graphics!

Tip to avoid the "Enter Downtown" crash / hang-up:
If you are experiencing the "Enter Downtown" crash right at the beginning of the add-on and still want to play through - despite the graphic problems mentioned above - simply kill the three main gate guards through the fence, before entering into the 'forced' dialogue with the head gate guard. Bypassing his dialogue then going through the city door seems to bypass the crash. Worked this out purely by fluke (crashed a couple times, got pissed off, killed everyone - hey presto - I win).

p.s: sorry - I use  projector and have no way to do easy screen grabs. These are bad photos of my office wall in semi-daylight.
