Been awfully busy doing nothing much lately ... gearing up for some DJ sets in July – one here in Hong Kong on July 4th alongside Technasia (you can guess the venue!) plus a further gig in Fukuoka Japan on July 19th.

Also, I recently re-built the main web site for Yumla / http://www.yumla.com ... I am not a web wizard by any stretch of the imagination so CSS, PHP and SQL headfuckery does take me some time to get right. Please check it out, I am really happy with the look & functionality and will be posting a lot more Hong Kong scene information so drop me details of what's happening. Either here or at dan@yumla.com

What else? Enjoying the weather and - for some reason - consuming lots of good wine & imported cheese. Off to Sai Kung for sea food now, more posts next week.

    Fuck yeah! Hahahaha! That's lyrics.

Probably in response to 'Kanye West is a gay fish' (google South Park if you live under a rock ... living under a rock with broadband?).

    This is making my day.

  • back from the UK

    Wednesday, Jun 3, 2009 6:26PM / Standard Entry

Good to be back after a two week trip... my younger brother got married and now our family is twice as large as it was in May. Many friends & relatives at the wedding for who - some - I'd not spoken to for over 12+ years.

Caught up with my grandfather and his brothers (my great uncles) for the first time in over a decade then spent the remainder of the time chilling with my parents and even younger brother, all of whom I do not see nearly enough. Managed to avoid London completely, thank god.

What did I learn from the trip back to the old country? Well for starters:

Hong Kong super markets SUCK ASS. Unless you count City Super Overpriced. Park n Crap and Wellshit have the least exciting range of food known to mankind. Forty foot isles dedicated to instant noodles and one miserable packet of cheddar. Don't get me started on onion marmalade.

Hong Kong's preservation of history & buildings SUCKS ASS. No comment necessary.

Hong Kong newspapers SUCK ASS. Google UK government expenses scandal or check the UK Telegraph if you've not already read. Would love to see the HK press stop taking cheap shots at pop stars and get down to some real political and economic reportage; even if only on a local level ... Beijing's radar only sweeps so low.

Hong Kong's management of natural & urban space SUCKS ASS. Parks with grass you can 't sit on, forests you can't free ride bikes or go hiking in and beaches you can't do anything on except sit & sweat. No wonder junk trips are so popular.

Hong Kong does have a large number of plus points in it's favor: ~17% income tax, 24 hour noodle shops, cheap taxis & great public transport ... family run oligopolies and monopolies everywhere you look. Uh and cockroaches the size of skateboards. Hmmm.

    Glad to be back.
