  Our epic Xmas / NYE party which started on the 19th of December comes to a close this weekend: My last gig of the season; I'll be Djing this Friday (tonight) down at Yumla alongside Wendy Wenn ... then sleeping for about a month!

• music for a film

  Spent the last couple weeks working on some orchestral / electronic cross-over music destined for film & television (all going to plan!). Not my usual thing – I'm all about hypnotic techno and moody  industrial – upbeat, melodic and epic and not really my style. 

  
  

  Anyway, after spending a few days getting my head around orchestral programming the results started to come back pretty good. Out of the dozen-plus track or so which were completed, there were two that I am really happy with ... thanks to Raffi they've been added to the music player on this page. 

  
  

  Check them out - Commander and also Adapt & Survive (under Cues) at the very bottom of the playlist. Both of these are short by necessity, but I plan to extend & mix them properly into full tracks after the Xmas holidays. Not bad for tentative first steps. Feeling totally uninspired by club music lately I'm heading off down this path for a while.

  
  

  Kind of talking about Xmas ... off out now to join crowds in Cause Way Bay. Having a big-ass dinner party and I can't trust anyone other than myself to pick up the right food ... Xmas is all about the right grub and dim sum simply will not do.

• This Fri & Sat at Yumla...

  If you are in Hong Kong this weekend, there are two really dope nights happening at my bar:

  
  

  Friday sees the return of drum & bass  to the bar after a long hiatus over the summer. Fat Demon & Cookie will be gearing up for some deep liquid jungle for the main body of the night plus we welcome newcomer DJ Kastoacha on dubstep duties. This new night - Boom Drop - will run on the second Friday of every month throughout 2009 ... it's about time dubstep & drum & bass were represented together in Hong Kong on a regular basis and in a fixed venue ... and I'm just pretty stoked to have the Johnathon & Cookie back on the regular roster.

  
  

  Saturday is our ever popular yumla knows: event, this time featuring overseas guest DJ Nils Nilson from Ostwind Records. It's been a while since we represented Germany with yumla knows: gig so if you came down for Martin Eyerer or H.o.s.h. then you'll know what to expect out of Nils. Supported by Yumla residents Markus Homm and Wendy Wenn.

• Invaders Must Die - new Prodigy track

  The Prodigy have been a hard band to love, but I've always had respect for 'em since first picking up The Experience album many years ago. It's always been about the show, the music, the party and they keep on going.
  
  Invaders Must Die - title track from the new album - is a free download on their site ... the MV is posted below. What I love about this Invaders... track is that it takes the fucking annoying stabby chopped up French electro-rock phenomenon and straps a massive cock & balls on it. The entire electro-rock crossover genre became tired & crap when it cunningly mutated into a vehicle for selling t-shirts to them with expensive hair cuts. In 2005. Come Invaders... The Prodigy knifes the throat of that genre once & for all, dances all over it's corpse then eats the remains. Pooping out this little audio nugget a day or so later.
  
  Not sure where I was going with all that.
  
  Other clips I've heard from the album have a real industrial bent so we are definitely looking forward to March when this bomb drops. Welcome back Liam & Co.
