My instruments: the DIY midi controller + classical guitar

Everyone always asks me how I make my music, so this week each day I'm going to upload a photo of my favorite music instruments.

Today it's my modified classical guitar again, some extra shots - with midi controller for rocking beats in sync with Ableton Live, and a guitar tuner, all attached. The tuner is transparent, so you can see all the wiring inside too. Everything is attached to the body with good old tape.

The controller is attached on the guitar below the strings, so its kind of like having a whammy bar for electronica guitarists. Do you make your own instruments? Have you ever changed the pickups on your guitar?

Dirt Star's sound has been described as a mix of Electro-fied Beetlemania in silver martian space suits,  a mix of infectious pop music mixed up in with a taste of street culture.

From past to present...

Dirt Star is the latest incarnation of projects of a well-traveled musician from the streets of North America. Previous to this music project, Dirt Star paid his musical dues playing as a solo performer and in a number of bands, including a stint as an electronic DJ, as guitarist and lead singer for an indie rock band, a street performer, an electronic jazz artist, and even performing pop songs before live audiences of over 20,000 people and appearing on 中央台春节晚会, China's equivalent of the Super Bowl in terms of viewing audience.   Dirt Star has shared stages with some of the biggest names in alternative music, including the Dirty Three, Feeder, the Rheostatics, and even China's biggest diva, Faye Wong. And he has performed in cities across greater China in venues of every size -- including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hong Kong and Taipei.

Dirt Star also performed at the Rockit festival in Hong Kong, Spring Scream festival in Taiwan, and at the Guangzhou Modern Music Festival.
