ya know it's kinda funny peachey (below) reminds me to write a new entry..
because i was going to anyways and it wasn't even by my own accord as choice but something i need to report (read: brag) by coincidence..
so here it goes:

(in case you haven't noticed i've editted the pic a little..)
how awesome is that?!!
for those who don't know the guy on the right is none other than mc yan - former rap vocalist of lmf and now solo artist in his own right; not just a musician but come graffiti artist, semi political activist etc.
www.chinamantaggin.com
www.nsbq.org
now i ain't gonna build him into some fanboy idol-god status but his work, actions and philosophy is something i have a lot of respect for. like for a lot of others, in hong kong music, it was beyond and then lmf that really got me interested in the scene so to speak. from their music and various collaborations, connections relations, i got to find out about a lot of other bands and musicians.
i have the equal amount of praise and things to say about beyond but to keep it on topic, lmf has been undoubtedly a major influence in hong kong's counter-pop-culture. what's so more important is even with the (shock) disband a few years ago, each of the members have diversified and continued their independent mentality; at the same time bringing us really original projects and creative offerings that continue to widen the range of hong kong music.
for example:

War is You mv
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ecMDZu64eQ
the war is you mv comes originally from the josie ho 'sickid' cd, which really was masterminded by davy chan (as producer) - from bringing in the musicians to recording to recommending the home-grown animation artists for the mvs. his solo cd is an exciting fusion of genres like house, techno, hip hop, rap, break beat, dance etc, where he brought and used a wide range of talents (how from janice vidal to seasons lee).
i can say a lot more but just get it, highly recommended.
jimmy - with jun kung and paul wong form the 'jam band' hann.
phat + kit - hardpack, 24 herbs.
dj tommy and mc yan - now a few ppl say they 'sold out' here by working with edison chen (who apparently had asked/begged lmf to help him do an album and got rejected haahha..) but actions speaker louder than words and to me it's clear, at least with mc yan's involvement that he has collaborated with edison as a medium to spread hip hop to the mainstream. even so it's not so much as to spread 'hip hop' but communicate the positive and constructive messages..

anyways i'm going off on a tangent.
i was walking around mong kok around fa yeun street (i believe) and all of a sudden i recognised this dude with his distinctive beard, dimunitive frame and army camo hat..he was talking to some french guy, who i later found out is part of a (break) dance group, that was going to perform in macau (shame i couldn't see it). so i walk round the front, caught his attention, butted in and was like
(in cantonese)
"hey mc yan?" *shakes hand* - me
"yeah" - yan
"what ya doing round here?" - me over-thinking that he was doing some
street project or something
"just walking around" - yan
"cool man i like your work a lot, what kind of projects you been up to?" - me
"well i'm gonna be doing my own solo project.." - yan
"like ning si bu qu? i heard edison was doing his mandarin album so i take
it you're not gonna help out on it?" - me
"nah he's doing his thing and my solo stuff is gonna drop this summer" - yan
- forgot what i/he said -
- asks and takes picture -
"yeah here's something for you, you can write 'my name is' and iron it here
on your shirt"

"ohhh pretty cool, that's really creative man. so you've got any
recommendations for events etc to go to these next two weeks?" - me
"next two weeks?" - yan
"well i'm from abroad.." - me
*points to guy next to him "i she's doing a show in macau, other than that
don't know but you can keep in contact with me on our website"
*writes www.nsbq.org on back on label* - yan
"cool i'll call myself mong kok danny so you'll remember me haha" - me
"hah just post our picture up init"
"ah well thanks for the label, well cool seeing you, laters!"
how cool is the clothes label?!
100%
NO MACHINE BRAIN WASH
DO ALOT BIATCHEzz
DO NOT DIE CLEAN
DO NOT SHOOT UFOz
and that was it. ok so maybe not so colloquial but very casual, he seems like a cool guy and was geniunely pleased that i took an interest rather than be annoyed.
anyways that was it and i must say i was pretty chuffed.
p.s i'm not in the best of moods for writing concise and detailed (even when i am it's only so so) so forgive the plain narration etc.
here's some joke mock art i did that is rather inspired from some of yan's work.

think what you want.
