On my last day in Hong Kong, I went hiking with some friends along Dragonback Trail. That afternoon, we found ourselves at a public beach where I saw some boys wading amongst the rocks and tidepools with fishing nets in hand. I walked over and watched them for a while. Finally, I asked one of the boys what they were trying to catch and he produced a bucket full of shrimp and small fish. In so many ways, these boys reminded me of myself when I was their age. Whenever my parents and I would visit a beach on vacation or something, I almost always built sandcastles and, then, recruited the indigenous hermit crabs and other creatures as denizens. But what struck me most while watching these boys is how they were unknowingly tapping into those deeply imprinted "hunter-gatherer" instincts that society so often tries to breed out of us. Little alphas, I salute you.
