i kind of don't give a shit about Donna Karan but it's weird walking down Houston St. and not seeing the big mural. a lot of murals and billboards have come and gone, this one was practically a landmark...
a lot of people complain about it, but all the changes in NYC in the last handful of years haven't been bad. I stopped by the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Bowery, where a friend/ex-colleague of mine works, to peep Sam Erickson's exhibition. Morrison Hotel Gallery is down next to, er, John Varvatos (i will never get used to that).
NYC has indeed changed... a lot. and i'm not supposed to admit this, but some of the changes are nice... change is often necessary and good. and as the donald byrd song says, "change... makes you want to hustle."
Today, i had the opportunity to photograph a living legend.
i'm grateful for all the fun and interesting jobs i've had over the years and all the amazing people i've had the chance to meet and the privelage of photographing; models, actors, tv personalities, musicians...
... but today, i felt validated. today, i felt like i had arrived.
"New York
is to the nation what the white church spire is to the village -
the visible symbol of aspiration and faith, the white plume saying
the way is up!" - E.B. White
