when i was in college (i won't say when that was, but let's just say that Biggie and Tupac were both very much alive and healthy and Jay-Z hadn't figured out how to make millions off of repeating Big's rhymes yet), i had a girlfriend who was really into Pearl Jam. i must have been much more tolerant back then, because... well.. Pearl Jam are pretty terrible.  I've since made a rule to never date a woman with shitty taste in music. and by "shitty" i mean music i don't like. because my opinion is awesome and should be respected more than the bible.

anyway, she always used to play this painful song called "yellow ledbetter" (i just heard a collective "oooh" from some of you 90's alterna-rock boys and girls) and i hated this song for a handful of reasons.

    1. it wasn't good.
    2. it reminded me so much of "Little Wing" by Hendrix except "Little Wing" was really good and this song... wasn't.
    3. the mumbling made me feel like i couldn't hear so well... (which, years later, turns out might be the case).
    4. it eventually ended up being licensed to "Friends" which i thought was weird because licensing that amazingly brilliant song from the Rembrandts for their theme song was such a sexy move, this Pearl Jam nonsense was mega deflating.

so i stumbled upon this video. and now i can cross off one of the many mysteries in my life. the "yellow ledbetter" lyrics are finally deciphered. and i must say, i LOVE this song now that i know that it's about a waving potato...  so,  a long overdue apology to J., i'm sorry, you were right! this song kicks ass!
