I got this email notice from fellow AnDer Min Yoo. If you're in Shanghai and are interested in learning more about carbon footprints and how to take steps to save our environment I would highly encourage you to check it out. The Urbn Hotel project is a very interesting hotel. We filmed a couple scenes for my movie "Like a Dream" there. The hotel is made out of recycled of environmentally safe materials as well as help guests offset their carbon footprint that is left from traveling. I will try to make sure I stay there as much as I can to support their cause and to be a more eco friendly traveler!

    Dear Fellow Concerned Citizens,

I’d like to formally invite you all to come join us for the Inaugural GREEN DRINKS SHANGHAI from 7-9pm, on Thursday, January 15th at the URBN Boutique Hotel located at No. 183 Jiaozhou Lu just behind the Jing An Temple. GREEN DRINKS is a monthly informal networking and information/resource sharing platform to share, discuss and empower each other with information and resources about environmental, conservation and csr issues. It’s also a nice excuse to get 2-for-1 drinks from the hosting venues. There are no fees involved, just cheap drinks, like-minded people, informative speakers and productive networking.

    Our speakers for the evening:

AMINA BELOUIZDAD, Director at Space Development (the people behind URBN), speaking about how URBN has been able to operate as a carbon neutral business and how the rest of us as residents and businesses can do our part to reduce our carbon footprint. Amina grew up in the Middle East, speaks Mandarin, French and Arabic, and holds a degree in finance from McGill university in Canada. She moved to Beijing to work with the founding team of an investment fund aimed at developing economy hotels across China. Amina then lead business development for a global hospitality design firm, setting up the Asia office to secure hotel projects from Korea to Morocco. Amina has been involved with re-development projects throughout this time and joined Space Development in 2008.

TATIANA RAMIREZ, Program Manager at JGI- Shanghai Roots and Shoots Eco Office Audit program, will be speaking about a student lead environmental audit which helps offices and companies to be environmentally sustainable by reducing resource use and carbon footprint. Originally from El Salvador, she graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a B.A. in International Relations/Global Business and later received a Masters in Management from the European School of Management (ESCP-EAP) in Paris. She’s lived in China since 2003, previously working as the business development manager for a Canadian education software developing company. While living in China she became more aware than ever about the extent of the environmental problems, and realized the urgent need to educate and create awareness among people in China, especially the young.

Spread the gospel. You’ve been included in this email becaue MIN YOO (so don’t blame anyone else yet) believes you give a rat’s ass about the environment and the world we live in. If I’m wrong, please let me know by replying to this email with “UNSUBSCRIBE” in the subject heading and we wont bother you again. Please feel free to forward this invite to any and all who are interested. See you Thursday!

    Best,

  • Downhill Skateboarding = Homesick
     |  |  )

Never thought a downhill skateboarding clip would make me homesick but I used to drive this road at least 4-5 times a week when I was in high school. The highway was always faster, but going over the Caldecott Tunnel from Berkeley back to my house in Orinda was always way more fun. It's actually a really great road set up for mountain rally racing. I did many stupid things on that road as a kid. I can't even remember how many times I've spun out on that crazy hairpin turn that you see these skaters barely make it around. I think I did skate it once or twice but I think I only had the balls to butt board it down. As you can see in the video here, you go really damn fast!

They call it Claremont Canyon because it ends up near the Claremont Hotel which is the big white building you see near then end of their run. At the very end of the run you can also see the burrito joint I used to eat at all the time as a kid. I still try to stop by there at least once every time I go back.

Actually now that I think about it, this road was the center of my existence as a youngster. I used to hang out in Berkeley on Telegraph Ave after school and on the weekends and then boy race it home back to Orinda when I was done. Sometimes my friends and I would spend the evenings racing though the hills in our cars and then end the night at a cafe down in Berkeley. Fortunately for me and my own personal safety I don't race cars anymore but I can't help but reminisce about the good ol' days. Fun times it was.

    Revolution Talent Mangement represent!!!!

I'm a little late on this blog but better late than never. Last Sunday I went to the East Asia Music concert where my new management company, Revolution Talent Management, was represented by my best friend Terence Yin and the ever amazing 24 Herbs. Terence sang a duet with Miriam Yueng. All I can say is...I'm so proud. I've known Terence longer than anybody in HK and he's always been there for me. So to be able to share such a wonderful moment watching him perform in front of such a huge audience was awesome. Honestly I think his singing was one of the best of the night. Because I gave my full attention to his performance, I forgot to take pictures. So all I have is this group shot taken by Raffi. Of course 24, did not fail to deliver with an awesome high energy performance that got the entire arena going. Even the older woman next me was "raising the roof".

  • The Red One Camera

    Video: http://www.vimeo.com/1340684

Check out this skate footage shot on the newish Red One camera. Probably some of the most amazing quality skate footage I've ever seen.

This amazing professional digital HD camera is the brainchild of Jim Jannard,  who previously owned Oakley, the sunglass company. With the billions he made from Oakley, he was determined to make an affordable, compact high end HD camera that could rival film. For those of you who don't know, there is a digital revolution going on right now in the film world as we make the transition from film to digital HD. Everyone knows that digital HD is the future but the technology still hasn't been able to rival the quality of the light captured on film. The Red comes close and the great thing about it is that it 's cheap, well relatively speaking. So instead of a hundred or so thousand (US)dollars for a  film camera, only a few thousand can get you the Red.  I just think it looks cool..I want one. I'm jealous of fellow AnDer Mark Allen because he has one.

  • Clinton Global Initiative

I was invited to attend the Clinton Global Initiative today. CGI is a kind of conference put on by former US president Bill Clinton where Major CEOs and World Leaders are invited to take part in discussions that eventually lead to some form of action on how to make the world a better place. Participants of the program are encouraged to then take what they learn and the connections they make and make a commitment to action. This year the focus is on several topics ranging from how to elminate poverty to solving the global warming problem. SInce I have always been a champion of the environment, I attended two sessions that focused on the evironment. It was exciting to see so many important world and business leaders take the initiative on addressing some of the biggest problems the world must face today. Above is a crappy photo I took form my Blackberry of Mr. Bill Clinton leading a discussion with the ex Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew. To find out more about the Clinton Global Initiative program cilck here.
