I had the pleasure of meeting acting coach extrodinaire, Jeanne Hartman tonight at Hotel Panorama. Ms. Hartman is a wonderful speaker and I wish that I was able to join her upcoming class, which you can find out about here:

Ms. Hartman spoke to us about how important it is to hone one's acting skills. Examples provided to us were Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'neal. Both amazing basketball players who practice every single day. Yeah, they are phenomenal....so why do they need to practice?! They need to practice to ensure that they stay on top of their game and to constantly improve; to be the best that they can be. Simarly, to be a GREAT actor, one needs to practice and learn skills and techniques.
I also learnt valuable information about audtions. Ms. Hartman explained to us that an audition is your ONE shot to impress everyone. You may not get the role that time, but make a lasting impression so that if a suitable role comes up in the future, you could be the first person that pops up in the casting directors mind!
I would DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY recommend taking Jeanne Hartman's class. Even if acting is not your forte, acting workshops are wonderful for boosting one's self confidence and it also encourages people with their fear of public speaking.
Not many people know this, (actually who am i kidding, anyone who talks to me knows this!) but I have a stuttering problem. It developed with i was 7 years old...well before that, but that was when I was diagnosed with an actual stuttering problem and was sent to seek help. It has gotten better but every so often it gets worse. When is that? It gets worse when I am ill. Am actually not entirely sure why that is..but its true! It also gets worse when I am nervous. I am also an extremely fast talker by nature. So can you imagine what happens when I'm nervous? I sound like a bullet train whose engine is in trouble and keeps stalling! its embarassing to say the least!
Through highschool I took Drama, because I loved stepping into the role of someone else, portraying a character so unlike myself and having my audience completely believe that I was the character I played. It was my little safe haven. When I was acting, I wouldn't stutter. That's another reason I wanted to take the workshop. I believe that I can take lessons learned and apply it to everyday life.
Please DONT disregard the workshop as just for actors because its not. You can get so much from it if you just open yourself up to the idea. So give it a try...what do you lose?
