  • Jo plays Mambo

    Thursday, Oct 22, 2009 11:29PM / Standard Entry

Few of u may remember im currently taking jazz lessons in the sch that i work in. Was telling my teacher i wanna try out Samba (tho i know a bit), but he showed me a Mambo piece instead. I was like, ok, try out something new.

So here's one of my practice sessions after 1 lesson which was last week, and it was my 1st try in a Mambo song. Have to say the off-beat bass is pretty challenging to grasp at 1st, now a bit better heh :p Middle part of the montunos u hear are my attempt at sight reading at the fast beat, coz i didnt know i was supposed to practice that part too, hence not so fluent...

Mambo Inn by yours truly, Jo

  • :O @ pageants & soapbars

    Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009 3:23PM / Standard Entry

Recently there's this super DIG at the ousted Ms Singapore Universe 2009, Ris Low because of the much talked about interview...see below! I finally bothered to find and watch it.

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c_A7-7B7-w

Think she has become the nation wide's laughing stock about her "BOOMZ", "i like to wear RAD (red)", "Duck gins" (dark jeans), "leopard prince/preens" (prints) etc etc...Ppl were mercilessly criticizing her about her diction, and how unfit she is to represent Singapore. And on the other end, we have ppl defending her saying that many Singaporeans speak like that too :O oh gosh...but at least they're not the ones representing for the world's pageant :P

And then we have our local comedian, PCK (Phua Chu Kang da construction boss with the famous yellow boots) digging at her again...ops this one needs a Facebook link to watch

    Video: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/video/video.php?v=155847958420&ref=nf

Er it's super Singlish (Singaporean English), so u might not understand what he's talking about heh...

Then something unrelated, found this on someone's FB posting again, about this HK guy Peter Chow? never heard of him previously, talking about disgusting soapbars with pubic hair stuck on it :P grossssss rite...i find it Really embarassingly farny....was like OM gosh...

  • Moment of Truth

    Thursday, Oct 8, 2009 11:17PM / Standard Entry

Yesterday night was browsing the TV for shows, actually i forgot ANTM was on Thurs instead of Wed. So ended up watching Moment of Truth. Contestants answer a series of really personal qns and i guess they're hooked to the lie detector sensor at the same time. So if they answer the series correctly, they'd get the money.

Initially i was not even interested in the show, but as i watched on, i was glued due to my curiosity. So there was this guy (American of course) who participated in the show, and his parents, galfriend Maria and i think his best pal were seated there. Initially the 1st stage of $10k, the series of qns were quite mild like has he lost $10k thru gambling b4, has he lied to his parents he won money thru business, when it was actually for gambling...

Now come to the 2nd series and 3rd series of qns leading to US$100K. In front of his parents and galfriend mind you!

    1) Have u had sex with over 100 women? His answer: Yes

    2) Do you intend to have children with Maria? No

    3) Do you keep a spreadsheet of the women u have sex with? Yes.

How many columns? 6. Do they have ratings? Yes

    4) Have u ever get paid for sex? Yes

    5) Do you ever see yourself being faithful to one woman? No

His mother and gf were obviously flabbergasted by his answers...i guess that's goodbye to Maria and possibly potential galfriends for this guy. But of course he seems happy he got the $100k...

Another contestant was a woman, seemed like a mini celebrity or something. And the worst part was she was married and she possibly might have destroyed her marriage with her answers to qns...it was a preview for next week's episode. Qns like...

    1) Have u ever regretted marrying your husband?

    2) Have u kept a man in the house while your husband was away?

    3) Are you bothered that your future children may inherit your husband's red hair? Yes

    4) Have u slept with a married man before your marriage? Yes

    etc etc...

So i was thinking, these ppl are spilling all their secrets on national TV. This is one thing, another was they're ruining their relationships for the sake of money...

Well well, quite interesting...wat do u think?

  • Tremors of earthquake felt yesterday

    Thursday, Oct 1, 2009 12:25PM / Standard Entry

SINGAPORE: Singaporeans island—wide literally felt the earth move under their feet as tremors shook the island in areas as diverse as Redhill in central Singapore to the northeast of the country like Pasir Ris.

This, after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.6 hit Indonesia.

Singapore’s Meteorological Services confirmed that the earthquake hit at about 6.15 pm this evening in the waters off Southern Sumatra about 530 kilometres from Singapore.

Minutes later, MediaCorp’s news hotlines started ringing as Singaporeans reported feeling tremors that lasted anywhere between 30 seconds and a few minutes.

Police and SCDF said they received more than 150 calls about the quake.

Videos sent in by viewers showed chandeliers swaying, as were other objects.

The calls came from across the island — Ang Mo Kio in the central , Marine Parade in the east, Punggol in the northeast and Raffles Place, in the central business district.

Callers said that some workers in the Suntec area and Changi Business Park were evacuated.

One man said: "There were a lot of office people on the roadside. We felt it for about five to ten minutes."

Others said their neighbours were screaming and shouting.

Rajakumar Choppa who works at Expo Changi Business Park, said: “Around 6 pm, we felt some kind of a building shake. I felt it three times actually and then we all stood up and rushed downstairs because there was some fire alarm in the building.

“When we got downstairs, there was a crowd. We were all watching and not knowing what was happening. I was able to see the building literally shaking.”

Callers also reported jams in the Causeway area as the bridge was shaking.

Experts MediaCorp spoke to said the situation was bad.

Professor Kerry Sieh, professor of Geology, Earth Observatory of Singapore, NTU, said: "It’s definitely getting worse. The earthquake sequence began in 2000 with a 7.9 about 800 km away from the south of Singapore. You haven’t felt this big of a sequence of earthquakes that is many large earthquakes for at least 175 years."

A tsunami warning was initially issued after the quake but later withdrawn. — CNA/vm

  • Ugly Truth & Inglorious Basterds

    Thursday, Sep 24, 2009 1:20PM / Standard Entry

Just realised the movie titles sound negative when put together...Well both movies are funny in some sense.

    Ugly Truth

Starring Katherine Heigl & Gerard Butler.

Gal is filled with typical checklist of the ideal guy (then again, i know of guys who have checklist of the ideal gal...so there!), she's a control freak in her work and life which turns guys off. Whereas the guy is the opposite of her, devil may care attitude, blunt, horny and not afraid to embrace it. So they happened to work together and they came to a deal whereby the guy will help the gal to get her dream guy, a good looking doctor with nice physique, and if he doesnt succeed, he'd quit the job. If he does succeed, she'd promise not to be mean to him and work co-operatively with him on the talk show. Sparks fly when he starts to teach her the ways guys love to see a gal behave etc...and she does succeed but realised she and Gerard prolly like each other more. Moreover the doctor doesnt love her for whom she really is, but what she's trying to protray according to wat Gerard teaches her.

Basically a love comedy filled with some guffaws and laughter. Well, laughter is the best medicine :) There were some conversation liners that really made me laugh out LOUD.

    Inglorious Basterds

Starring basically Brad Pitt and was it Diane Kruger? and some authentic Germans and French actors/actresses. Directed by Quentin Tarantino

My hubby wanted badly to see this show....i just obliged....even though it's Brad Pitt....well guess he lost his appeal as compared to long time ago. But he's farny in a sense. His accent which he says which was naturally infused for this show directed by Quentin Tarantino. Those who watched Kill Bill would know his style-full of open gore, but im ok with it.

Basically this is about this team called the Inglorious Basterds (spelling intended), who are to kill as many Nazis as possible. Among the Nazi is a prominent figure called the Jew Hunter, a very intelligent, shrewed man, who lives up to his reputation. The ending chapter was they planned unwittingly together with a Jew called Shosannah or something who escaped from the Jew Hunter, had a cinema which gathered ALL the big shots of Germany including Adolf Hitler himself for a screening called the Pride of the Nation. So they decided to kill all the "bad eggs in one basket".

Then again, i tot Hitler died while committing suicide or something in his own house? Not sure...any person care to enlighten?

and there were some other 'loopholes' in a sense, like why did the Jew Hunter let Shosannah go? And why did the Jew Hunter trust the Inglorious Basterds to let him enjoy US citizenship blah blah when they could easily just kill him?

Ok the show was not bad, quite worth watching. Well my hubby said it was Da Best Show of the Year....He was very amused by Brad Pitt's acting and the other Basterds who were kinda comical/violent....well, for me i dun really think its THE BEST SHOW OF THE YEAR....watch for yourselves?

Oh yeah looking fwd to New Moon from the Twilight series coming up 3rd Dec...
