  • Change The World - Funky Rendition (Serene & Clarence)

    Friday, Jul 3, 2009 4:08AM / Video

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPRhGIPQO4w

Serene and her smokey vocals, singing a funky rendition of Eric Clapton's Change The World at Acid Bar, Singapore.

I've always enjoyed performing with Serene, her creative takes on melodies never fail to pleasantly surprise me. Glad we finally managed to work together after countless missed opportunities, haha! I got a lil carried away with the song, hope you'll like it!

    Cheers,
    Clarence Yeo =)

  • Hush @ Wala Wala, Holland Village, Singapore (Tuesdays Happy Hour, 7-9pm)

    Wednesday, Jul 1, 2009 12:07AM / Standard Entry

It was good seeing familiar faces tonight, more so than usual. The good ol regulars who were always more than eager to share their honest thoughts, comments, pointers and appreciation of our music; friends and my guitar students who pop by every now and then to say "hi!" and the occasional random photo-taking sessions we'd gladly be part of. Looking back, it's been over 2 years of good fun and learning. Definitely a place I quickly got acquainted with. The staff, fellow bands, food and beer have always been awesome. Not forgetting the pleasure of sharing the stage with my band mates Kewei and Dayv, it's been far from mundane.

Hush started out when a good friend of mine, Carol, and I got together some years back for an acoustic competition (Carol's got an awesome warm jazzy voice). I then got Dayv to join us on guitar, and later Kewei joined us as our singer! It's been a blast since, though sadly Carol had to leave after some good months playing together.

Been great seeing us grow, infusing our personal styles into our line-up as we went along; Kewei, coming from chinese pop who carries a distinctively soothing yet powerful pop-jazz style in her singing; Dayv, who plays with a bluesy attack and has a particular liking for the classics, and me, who's enjoyed jazz as a kid, helplessly reinventing and jazz-funking up the r&b grooves & pop hits. The freedom found performing at Wala has played a role in my advancement in music, allowing the development of my finger-picking playing style along the way. It's amazing how divine time and place can make such a difference in one's life heh?

Here's a clip of us playing Al Green's Let's Stay Together:

This being my first wordy entry, haha, i hope i didn't bore anyone here. Stay tuned for more songs coming up on my entries! IF you happen to be in Singapore, remember to pop by to catch us and give me a shout out! Tuesdays 7-9pm, Wala Wala @ Holland Village. You'd havta try the Grilled Dory Fish and Chicken Wings accompanied with Blanc beer! mmm... =)

    Time to rest!
    Clarence ;)

Hope you'll like the grooved up r&b finger-picking style on the acoustic guitar. ;) This was our first attempt at playing Khalil Fong's Singalongsong at Wala Wala, Singapore.

Khalil, give us a shout if you're viewing this! haha =p

I thought I'd put up more covers and renditions, upon request by a good friend, Shawn, who's been very supportive. Great catchin up! =)

    Enjoy,
    Clarence
P.S. No, the pants were not purple, they were black! haha love HK shopping.

Here's one of the few originals recorded on vid. This one's for JediJean, who's been very encouraging and curious of my originals, and to the peeps here at AnD of course! Shout out what you think, cheers!

P.S. If you'd like a particular song to be up on my entries, or think my singalong friends and I would sound great doing them, just drop me a note! Looking forward to hear from yous!

We felt the impelling force to sing a Remix version of our original piece, "Star/Twinkle Twinkle" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYCT24YP9YA&feature=channel , with funky sounds from Juliet's new baby red synth and samples (which she gladly brought along to our Backstage show in Hong Kong), on the baby red couch! We love Hong Kong!! =)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGu1wkR9qco&feature=channel_page

A fingerstyle funky rendition of the all time favorite, Fly Me To The Moon. I have always liked this Frank Sinatra number, so I thought I'd reinterpret it with groove and rhythmic movements!

    Sam on Vocals,
    Clarence on Guitar.

    Good fun! =)

    Cheers,

    Clarence Yeo
