In 2008, Charles Slender returned to his native California and founded FACT/SF, a contemporary dance-theatre company which creates provocative performance events aimed at encouraging viewers to feel intensely and think critically. Charles’ choreography has been presented in the United States, Hong Kong and all over Russia, and has been described as “capturing us with its wit and razor-sharp technique” (Independent Weekly) and as a “balance on the edge of kitsch and something more serious; paradoxical and interesting” (dance-net.ru). In 2006 and 2007 Charles danced for Provincial Dances Theatre, an international, touring company under the direction of Tatiana Baganova. Charles graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, with degrees in both Dance and Performance Studies and English Literature. His primary interests include subconsciousness, passive-aggression, and proximity.
