Crazy for AFL!

    Monday, Mar 30, 2009 8:42PM / Standard Entry

When you read the word "AFL" , you most probably would think of American Football League, that's if you are American. American Football, with the limited knowledge I have, is a type of sport that players wear protective padding and run ruthlessly towards each other. The "AFL" I mean here, is along the same lines with ruthless running and tackling, minus the padding. It's so crazy it's insanely fun. It's Australian Football League.

Melbourne is the Mecca of AFL. The game's originator, the Melbourne Football Club, was one of the oldest football clubs in the world. It's hard to believe that AFL was invented to keep the cricketers fit during the winter. Little did they know that AFL is now far more popular than the cricket itself in Australia!

We gathered together a group just to experience the excitement live. Interesting group we had:  A good friend flew in from Canberra. A friend that had recently migrated to Australia from Beijing, An American friend visiting Australia for the first time. Two friends from Melbourne. And of course us, who flew in from Sydney.

So what's the verdict? If you want the real taste of authentic "Strayan kulcha", you gotta get yourself a ticket for AFL in Melbourne!

  • Twitter!!

    Sunday, Mar 22, 2009 11:43AM / Standard Entry

Alright, maybe I am not an early adopter. After perhaps 4 weeks hearing my friends raving about "Twitter", I finally registered an account with them.

But at least I registered the account earlier than, Ellen Degeneres talked about it on her show, and Sydney Morning Harold devoted two pages in The Good Weekend for its phenomenon.

Apparently it's very very VERY up close and personal. It is as if you are with THE person 24/7, who ever you are following. Anyone famous, or not famous, or even infamous.

I guess it's blogging to its extreme. Yes it is hard to come up with blog posts that worth a while reading sometimes. But at least writing an article that talks about something we are interested in, giving some details of how it happened and how we got there, makes sense to most people.

Now what we are facing is an entirely different game.

We suddently have to become a philosopher who can come up with witty/meaningful/sarcastic/cruel sentence that is completed in 140 words.

At the moment I only have 2 people "following" me. They are my colleagues sitting next to me.  They don't need twitter to know what I am doing, because I am doing things right next to them. I guess you could call it "pity following".

But hey at least I've got time and room to improve my thought process, so I can come up with something that worth reading in, 140 words. (Not like this long post. Thank you for reading it by the way!)

Beautiful night spot in Pangu Seven Star Hotel Beijing

    Saturday, Jan 31, 2009 12:49PM / Standard Entry

Last night we were told by our friend in Beijing that we were going to a fantastic night spot that "no one knows about". The suspense was unbearable~ I mean, a place in Beijing that "no one knows about"? Perhaps it means "only less than two million people know about it"...

We hit straight to the highway, taking us further away from our familiar surroundings. Before we realised where we were, the magnificent Bird Nest and Water Cube were standing shining before us.

So it was revealed then our mystery destination was the Pangu Seven Star Hotel. (You might have seen it from all the Olympic coverage)

This is the Pangu Seven Star Hotel, taken from the Lounge at top floor.

(HAPPINESS LOUNGE)

This is the place we went to - Happiness Lounge.

    Isn't this view breathtaking?!

    Water Cube's fashion parade~

Me and my mum's kodak moment~!

Chinese New Year Fireworks in Beijing

    Wednesday, Jan 28, 2009 1:06PM / Standard Entry

    P.S. I didn't take this photo :-P
